Hi, can anyone advise me where I might get a relatively mature Aloe Vera plant? Also, do you know how hard they are to look after, and how often you can harvest the "gloop"!!!

Not hard to look after at all. If mine is anything to go by, you just stick it in the ground and water periodically and in no time you will have a massive plant with lots of babies. As far as I can gather you can harvest the gloop all the time because as soon as you snap a leaf it produces gloop. You can even keep the leaves in the fridge and then in the height of summer it is lovely and cold. I would imagine you can buy Aloe Vera at most garden centres or failing that, you can have one of my babies (or several!!)

Hi I spent 13 years in Spain and Portugal . Aloe vera is fantastic for sun burn.

I dont think it works for bites, but I know Gin does , just rum some on the bite you can drink some too if you like , it works wonders.

Aloe Vera seems to thrive here whether in a pot or straight into the ground.

It does prefer light, well drained soil, so you might want to mix a fair amount of sand into whatever you're using - a word of warning though, if you're not sure where the sand came from, it would be adviseable to wash it 2 or 3 times to make sure that there is no salt on it - a sure way to kill plants!

Let it get DRY before you water it sparingly, they hate sitting with their roots in water - mind you, mine have had a fair amount of abuse, and they're still going strong.

Personally I use the 'gloop' on everything, even if it doesn't provide a 'cure', it still soothes...ahh....especially if it's straight out of the 'fridge!

We have been re-designing our front garden and have several mature Aloes going spare. Give me a ring on 0533 845 1337 if you want any. We also have yuccas and a massive Agave (not sure if that's how it's spelt) if anyone wants one and doesn't mind digging it up! We live in Girne.

No problem Krin, it was very early this morning!

Phoebecat I'm sorry I didn't see your earlier message. You are welcome to some babies. I am in Karsiyaka so email me if you want to come and get some.
