There is an excellent article at http://www.canadafreepress.com/index.php/article/12629 about the so-called rise in sea level which contributed to his Nobel Prize. It says, amongst many other things, that there is no such thing as sea-level anyway and, for example, it is even different at the two ends of the Panama Canal. When I first heard of the greenhouse effect, I took my greenhouse down and it made no difference

Well studies show earliest man emanated from the African continent... we all have some African genes is us! But it's a bit of a jumbled mess of an argument.

Correct in part I think but odd to use population growth as example of a Ponzi scheme.

What the writer is referring to is the idea that only those at the top get the huge benefits and those at the bottom are like the last into a Ponzi scheme, lose most and have less in the first place. The idea that public servant's pensions are the motivating factor in the hoax is a nonsense.

It is a little known fact that in the UK at least, when pay is being bargained collectively for the Civil Service, due note is made of the 'free' pension and each pay award is modified to take this into account. Under pressure from the media et al reviews of this system have been carried out on several occasions and they have always come to the conclusion that the pension 'contribution' made in this way (sleight of hand) is fair and justifies the pension that comes as a percentage of salary as a result and is not 'free'. It approximates on average 8% of salary over the service period. Of course the media don't like to hear this and don't run with a follow up to their shocking stories of fat-cat Civil Service mandarins... and why would they? The truth never made a story more interesting.

Groucho The public service myth is the salaries are lower than in Private sector but this is compensated for by security of tenure and excellent indexed linked pensions. In my opinion the first tenet is not true and the compensations lead to stagnation and inefficiency.Having said that I don't know the best way to reform the system! As to the article, it is a pretentious piece of propoganda. It criticizes Global warming sceptics for lack of empirical evidence and then goes on to promote a theory similarly lacking such evidence. As may be the case in the long run, God help us! (Or whatever higher power you recognise even if its happenchance and random theory) Harold

Harold, which bit is not true? I can assure you that the even when pay awards went to ACAS the 'free' pension was taken into account. The security of tenure is the bit that's largely a myth... loads of civil service jobs were sold off to the private sector companies like SEMA, EDS and others. When my work was being outsourced even though the Government's own market testing proved that privatisation would treble the cost to the tax payer we were not even consulted as to which of the beauty parade of companies we would prefer to move to. They picked the one that had the worst reputation for staff employment rights. I left after 23 years of what was considerably less pay then I could earn outside. I know this because I walked into a job where my salary trebled my civil service pay within a short period. The people who stayed and got outsourced have all moved on now, lost to the Civil Service taking with them all the experience they had.

In a nutshell the article was nuts! Made a point then wondered off into doolally-tap land... Anyone who could make sense of the conclusions drawn from such a poorly constructed argument should seek medical help ASAP.
