Arrived in Lefkoşa (Immigration Office) at 07.30 am. Wrote down our names on the list (nr 7 and 8), outside, near the still closed door. Entered the building at 8.00 am, entered the comfortable waiting room. Got numbered tickets there (7 and 8) when our names where called. Office opened at 8.30 am. Shortly after we were called (electronic system hangs on the wall) we left the office with our two year residency around 9.00 am. Nothing to complain - well done, TRNC Government! P.S. The stamp needed costst 7 TL (available in the cafetaria). You have to ask for a two year residency at the desk - you get it when you are 65+). The cost of residency is 185 TL per year + one 7 TL stamp (370 TL for a two year period + one 7 TL stamp).

I understand you can get it under 65, so maybe Hans did a misprint! And really meant 45! Glad they are improving - I am sure they really do care, but are overburdened with applications. The police station in Kyrenia said they get around 200 every morning! Wow! That's a lot of paper work. Still don't see why you go and queue though!

RE msg 3, Brinsley: (...) Never thought Hans was that old! (...) => Richard, your deep, philosophical thoughts in many threads here are worth a better forum than this one. Maybe your own forum?

Stellastar1: In the past five years *our" muhtar charged different prices for the stamp - this time he didn't charge us any money at all! And I've heard about different prices for the letter itself in different villages. So I really cannot give you the one and only answer!

I have always taken the stamp to the muhtar and then paid extra whatever he has asked for. I thought the stamp was a standard price, and the rest was a price plucked out of the air !!!!!!

RE msg 9, japeal: (...) Stamp for Muhtar letter is 1.5TL. this was confirmed by post office in Essentepe and by Tatlisu Muhtar. (...) => This time our letter was NOT stamped. And the Police in Girne recently accepted this letter without any remark about a missing stamp. Maybe the rules have changed again?

Apparently the age for two years is 60. Ageism rears its ugly head yet again. Free bus passes Winter fuel allowance Discount on flight tickets All unfair on us youngsters.

RE msg 12, newscoop: I know that all board members know better than the civil servant who told me yesterday that a 2-years residency will only be given to people 65+. I still believe the civil servant.

Friends of mine renewed their residency this morning. They were there less than 2 hours and got the 2 year residency. One is 61 and the other 59. You must ask straight away for the two years before documentation is issued. B

I'll fox them in November stating that NZ is the most forward time Country in the World amongst other things and then insist on a 2 year 'visitor pass' because I'm way ahead of them! Richard

We went to Lefkosa immigration yesterday (29th) arrived at 11.20, issued with numbers 102 and 103, number 87 was being processed at that time, was called into office at 11.55 and 2 year residency completed and away at 12.10. Very efficient and very quick ronnie1940

In the pre Pegasus days CTA used to give discounted fares to pensioners. As far as I know they still do BUT as with so many things here you have to ask.

Re Msg 5 - absolutely agree with Hans on this one (new for me eh?). A separate thread should be set up for Richard so that we can all enjoy his deep insightful thoughts in one place - without having to trawl through all the other drivel looking for his pearls of wisdom. Was that sarcastic? - I never can tell these days.
