Oh dear, 'Im Downstairs crunched on his brekkie Muesli with too much force this morning, and thought he had found a nugget in his cereal. Not wearing glasses he was adamant that it was not three false teeth (which is what I said). However, a few puffs and pants later and the wearing of his specs,(plus a look in the mirror), revealed that his three bottom front teeth were no longer in his mouth but on the table!

QUESTION IS - does anyone know of an instant repair laboratory in Kyrenia. He don't arf look funny as it is, and he can't chew his sugar-coated-wheatie-puffs no more.

Not having to use a denture repair person, I can only tell to you that there is usually someone advertising in the classifieds in the back of the Cyprus Today

There is a dentist in Girne whose wife is a dental tecnnician. My UK visitor lost a tooth from his denture while biting a Turkish Airlines bread roll. They re-affixed it in 24 hours for £!0 - as far as I know it is still attached. The best directions I can give are:-

Leave Girne towards Lapta and turn left at the fountain roundabout. It is on the left hand side of this road about 3/4km - I think near the Dano shop. It is a newish shop on the right of a bay of 3 or 4 with off street parking in front.

Sorry the best I can do. Good luck.

Thank you lovely people. I now know where to go (in the proper sense of the word!) As to Groucho's ready wit - I agree, and it is slops until he can chew!

That is why Ineed an instant fix!

And to DD - I am glad you had a laugh. If you don't laugh, you cry, and I refuse to cry over 'is disasters - I have enough of my own.

Thanks again.

Oh dear - disaster.

Didn't see the name and phone number, so went off to search for Dano, and right next door in a parade of three shops was one on the right hand side 'Dental ....' something or other. So, in we went. Yes, he could repair it. Needed the teeth to be stuck on again. He tried to make it sound complicated but I knew it wasn't. He said he would get it done that day, and silly me NEVER thought to ask how much. 'Im downstairs needed to restore 'that certain smile'. They were ready by 4.30 and so dashed off to get them .................and here is the crunch

One hundred and fifty lira! Yes, 150tl for a two minute job. I was absolutely gob smacked, and 'Im downstairs hardly blinked except to get 100tl off me cos he had only 50tl.

So, I am now rejoicing in having been ripped off by a garage, and now a dentist. It seems that spare parts and I are not good friends at the moment. Have I got any sympathy out there, or maybe a donation to the Stuarts Poverty Fund.

Thanks Maggie. That could shut him up for ever! That could be a bit cruel, but I know what you mean. I think I had better go and live in a cave and forget the world. Currently, it sucks!

I would recomend James Butler every time ... my other half has sought his help several times ,as I will be myself soon. Very nice guy, and does a great job, often while you wait .. and fairly priced to boot.

he ads in the cyprus today can find a number if anyone is stuck.

I am sorry it went wrong for you. After I posted my earlier response I emailed my UK friend and he confirmed the £10 charge and that the denture was still good.

I wasn't present when he agreed the deal but knowing him of old he would have agreed the price first, and, being a farmer, it would have been a good deal. But that was 3 years ago and the clinic had only just opened - obviously the guy has learned how to charge the British now.

Thanks Jovial John, but I think I went the wrong one. I keep meaning to go into the one I should have gone and ask what he would have charged, and go tell the other one he is a crook! Maybe he made a mistake!!!!! He showed me a Turkish Price list which said something about 'fractured tooth' but my beloved didn't have a fractured tooth, just a busted denture! We were so gob smacked, that we paid up and fled. Silly us. I will make sure next time I ask first. As to Mr Butler, I believe he is at Ozankoy, so for us, nearer home is better.

Oh and the realy good part was that this dentist recommended A had a complete new bottom set. 'How much?' we asked with a smile. The smile disappeared when he said 1,500tl. Ouch - too many month';s pension that is.

Better off going to U.K and having it done with our old private dentist.

Ah well, living here is a constant learning curve.
