Was close to having a go last year, there are loads around. I'm gonna do it this year for sure. Diogenes assume you have tried the local variety?

Re: Msg 4,

I ate sea urchins in France, Italy and Spain. I have never seen them on the menu in any restaurant in TRNC.

Do you know the place where they serve them?

Gastronomics (sp) in the French Riviera cut them in half and eat the roes (eggs). Ugh!

Re: Msg 8,

mia100max,

I don't know.

I have eaten pinkish-yellowish and purple ( Adriatic coast).

Usually locals know exactly which are edible varieties. But I've never seen them anywhere in restaurants here.

Does anybody know?

I think the black ones are okay...the ones with the "blue eye" ;-)

actually the thing you eat is the eggs, the orange thing.

while collecting, pick the ones that are dark purple, those are the female ones.

the ones sitting on the rock or usually male ones - black - the females with the eggs prefer the places more secure like under rocks etc.

be careful while picking them, use a knife or screwdriver, turn it upside down, make a crack, wash the inside, the orange eggs will remain on the shell.

If you see white gel on the eggs, dont eat them.

bon apetit
