Berty, some fans that spray a fine mist were advertised on the TV last year and I noticed them for sale in the little shop opposite Astro in Girne. I cant remember the name but they looked quite smart and it was a short name, perhaps 3 letters. I dont know if they still sell them but I think they were well over £100 last year.

Ian,

If you want to keep cool, soak a beanie hat in cold water, squeeze it out and stick it on your bonce.. as the water evaporates cooling is created... it will fair freeze your napper, so it will. And no breathing in dodgy water vapour either....

UK, Summer and Months don't often appear in the same sentence!

I have a handbag size facial spritzer that I got from Avon. When it ran out I filled it with bottled water and I use in the summer when sitting near a fan, it really does cool you down!

I have heard if you place a bottle of frozen water infront of a fan it acts like air con, don't know if this works but will try it this year.

In the days when I was a bachelor in Paphos, at night, I set up a normal fan at the end of the bed, angled so it blew air onto a plastic bowl of water into which I put a coupla three 'freezer blocks' - it worked 'like a bought one'!

Definitely 'economy aircon' - I can highly recommend this set-up!

berty,

msg 10

I always check my facts:

Legionellosis infection normally occurs after inhaling an aerosol (suspension of fine particles in air) containing Legionella bacteria. Such particles could originate from any infected water source. When mechanical action breaks the surface of the water, small water droplets are formed, which evaporate very quickly. If these droplets contain bacteria, the bacteria cells remain suspended in the air, invisible to the naked eye but small enough to be inhaled into the lungs.

Potential sources of such contaminated water include cooling towers used in industrial cooling water systems as well as in large central air conditioning systems, evaporative coolers, hot water systems, showers, whirlpool spas, architectural fountains, room-air humidifiers, ice making machines, misting equipment, and similar disseminators.

I've seen them with the 19 litre water bottles. There is also one outside a really fantastic juice bar on the "other side" near Debenhams. Five minute walk from Ledra Street Border/Crossing/Green Line/Legal Boundary/Edge of Civilisation, etc.

If you are going to use a fan like this, boil the water first and keep the reservoir sterile.

I have seen them for sale at the Duba/China Bazar they do look weird. Not sure how much they were, but they are pretty cheap on most things they sell.
