After 5 months in Lapta I return to Norwich by road this Monday 29th March, via Turkey and Rhodes. It's been a hoot. Mellow, relaxing, inspiring, happy, joyful, educational. New friends, new paining to take home after winning it at Charcos last night. I am recharged and ready for the next adventure. Thanks to Cyprus 44 members for their help and advice. It's a great place. Many many good things to say but the top one for me is the people here. They are some of the most genuine and friendly I have ever encountered. I am off but will return!

Good luck and safe journey Corbo, if you take the wrong turning and end up in Bulgaria watch out for the "Police" with their red lollipops... you're going too fast!

Be wary of Aegean Tour Travel in Bodrum Turkey. Purchased a car ferry and two tickets from Marmaris to Rhodes from them after making sure the car ferry was running. 100% certain they said and we paid and the night before we are told in Marmaris that the car ferry does not run until 6th April. Now my friend who flew over to go to Rhodes with me must go alone and then fly back to UK from there; I drive to Bodrum, ferry to Kos tomorrow 2nd April and then hope the Rhodes to Piraeus ferry stops at Kos. The Aegean ferry company says it will but the return leg may be less smooth than the drive over. Still; plenty of fun on route.

Best of luck for the journey back, Corbo. I may email you later as am trying to persuade Des Lynam to drive over at the beginning of July and may need some tips.

Now in a rather slick hotel in Bodrum. 80 TL, double the usual very good value room price but quite high standard really. Blue Marin Hotel. My friend went off to Rhodes and the ferry broke down and limped back to port. Would be hilarious in a film but rather annoying in real life. Turkey is stunning. The lake area near Isparta was like the Swiss alps at their best with cheap hotels. Kos tomorrow and then I pay extra for a shorter trip to Athens from there for a mistake by another company. It's rip off the traveler now..Turkey is still mainly OK and cheapish.

Corbo;

Fully appriaciate the fact that "each to their own".I think it is much easier to do the road trip,rather then ferrys.

I went to UK and back in a car november last year,the only ferry we used was from Cyprus to Turkey and Calais to Dover.

Even in november,I could only say f*****g funtastic.Even managed to find friendly people in Bulgaria.

Thanks Paul..should be back for the street celebrations.

I think I agree Yorgozlu that it's best to cut out the ferries if possible. I did it for a change on the return route and to have a few days on an island with my friend who flew over but is now lost in limbo. We'll see how good or bad it was over this weekend.

Nice one wynyardm,an, right now promoting TRNC to the Greek barman in the hotel I'm staying in, in Kos. Impressive Easter parades with the populace out in force.

Back in Norwich. Cold and damp. I hear there is rain in North Cyprus this week. Fantastic trip home if not expensive. Ravenna in Italy was stunning. A motorway service station in the Swiss Alps must be the best one in the world for location. Greece is over priced now. Arriving back in M25 rush hour traffic, driving rain and having no change for the Dartford tunnel was like arriving in Hell after the peace of TRNC. Have a good summer.
