Hello

I am a European Composer and Songwriter with contacts in the industry. I am in TRNC at the moment and I am looking for voices from around the island (male and female) to record a song to be released in the summer.

More songs in different styles (Pop, Rock, RnB, Hip-Hop etc..) will be produced later on so other voices are needed for those ones as well.

If you would like to take part to this vocal selection, just choose any contemporary hit and record it (mobile phone recordings/videos are fine too).

Send the file(s) to

cyprusvoices@yahoo.com

Deadline for submission is April 25th 2010

Sounds good, but I reckon you don't like operatic sounds or Can Belto (a noisy kind of Bel Canto)

Hi John. Welcome to the forum. Have you composed any music that we would have any knowledge of?

Hi Bill

Id probably say yes.

My list of contacts goes from a selection of international agents, two european national radios, a major producer in Los Angeles and so on.

I cant reveal my identity as Id prefer to work under privacy, however, this is an opportunity for anybody even without musical training. What I look for is a "type of voice", so it's worth to have a go. Perhaps someone without much experience has the voice needed.

If you are looking for someone without much experience, I guess you are not going to pay!?! And how could that be 'the voice needed' or are you a talent spotter.

Again I ask - if you are looking for voices, what is the pay! Or is everyone doing it for love, like the Cast Me page on Faqcebook. 'Your chance for fame - no money, just hope!' (well, that is what I think). But of course, it can be fun, but only if you can afford the fare to get to the venues.

So, please explain Horizon, just WHAT are you looking for, cos I know a lot of people, and would you like a nice ad in the local papers? If so, - again, what DO you want?

Leave it out, I do have a trained singing voice but could not pursue opera because Italian, similar to my English, was beyond me! Very rusty now but can pitch and read music however, (Msg 1) try the Anglican Church in Girne who have a very accomplished choir with singers at all octaves. Make contact with Fikri Toros (Toros Centre) and he'll help you, singing being one of his passions. Hope this helps.

O.K. Richard - I will teach you Italian and we can do some duets. That should empty the island - but I am willing if you are.

However, to add to your suggestions - what about Grahame Ash and Chorus Lam,bousa, and of course Kyrenia Chamber Choir, but maybe our talent scout wants under 25's!!!!!!!!!!

So what's the trade off? Hell, even my French is rusty let alone my Maori, Kia ora! So, I become President, you, Head of State for Female Rights, live opposite ends of the Island having cleared out all Turks, Greeks and all unwanted European matter and communicate by smoke signals?!

@ MarieB

A royalty check is usually the payment for an artist.

However, the way you write shows that you are not aware of how the music industry works.

Nice one Horizon, but you are incorrect in your assumptions - but no matter. I was only used to doing live performances!

As to Brinsley - wow! What a challenge, but I don't think I would REALLY want to empty the island - just joking. They might chuck me out as well as part of the European unwanteds! As to being Mr B and Nesun Dorma - I will teach you the words. I have the music, and maybe we clould tell everyone that 'no one is sleeping' - cos I reckon they wouldn't be if we got together and sang it!!!

But back to my question for Horizon - what age group are you looking for and what kind of voices - I am sure that we would then know who to contact. There are plenty out there who don't read Cyprus 44 - yes, really.

Ideal age range 18-38 (for women) and beyond (for men) but younger/older are also accepted if they correspond to the kind of contemporary voices wanted by the market today.

The song is in a Pop/Rock style but more songs will be on the way and, as I say, there is a voice for any song. Sending an mp3 is not costing people any money so why not try?

How could you tell the voice was that of an 18-38 year old?

Good question, Doyen. But voices do change with age - the vocal cords change, but in essence, I am sure that Horizon would judge on what he hears.

I ask Horizon again - would you like something to go in the local papers? That could interest a few folk, and if so, any kind of picture you want to go with it?

As for me, - I don't have a 'contemporary ' voice - never had, even when 8 years old! But I would think there is enough talent here who might want to have a go.

I guess I could always be a backing group, ooh, aaghing in the background!!!!??? What about Brinsley?

Come on Brinsley, thee, me and Lilli - surely that would be a truly dynamic N.C trio. And maybe we could do the backing in front of the mike. Would that do? That way, you are 'in front'. But I am not sure about Lilli - are you going to clap your feet in tune with the music, if so, then I think you should be in the percussion section!

Goodness, the mind boggles, having seen my old mate, Michael Flatley's troop in concert last December I know for sure that I'm not up to Liz's standard! See http://de.youtube.com/watch?v=7nYXChm...
