My patio chairs are rusty as hell.

Back in the UK I'd have just give them a coat of Hammerite. Is that available here, I haven't seen it? And is that the best thing to do or, is there any cheaper local solution? And don't say, chuck em in the bin!

Give them a good stiff 'wire brushing' then treat them with Hammerite and re-paint.

Hammerite from Marshalls.

Hammerite - at what cost?

There are equally good equivalents at Marshalls - for instance: 'Asbright' in handy .645 litre cans - you'll need to buy thinners, too, unless you want to chuck your brushes. I can't tell you the price now, as I bought mine a coupla years ago - good stuff, though!

Thanks to you both. Think I'll try a combination of wire brush then and 'Asbright'. I'm not really in to trying to look after brushes, unless after a coat of emulsion - too much like hard work!! If the brushes are cheap enough, I don't mind chucking 'em!

Can you tell me where I'll find Marshalls?

Thanks.

For the best finish find a wrought iron manufacturer there ar a few about looking at the wrought iron work in the TRNC

They sandblast the metal first to get a smooth rust free surface

Then either sprayor dip if you are lucky an electrostaticly applied paint

All the methods give you a smooth finish and get rid of the rust also stops your place stinking of paint

Wanderer, That's what we did with our wrought iron table and chairs. Can't tell you how much it is as they kindly did it for free after we purchased quite a lot of railings from them. The table and chairs look better than new!

The company we used is in Karakum. The building is opposite Pizzaland, to get to the ironworks bit you have to go down the right side of the chemist and round the back to the other end of the building. It is directly below Sydney Construction offices, I think it is owned by them. Phone contact is Hulus, who speaks English, 0533 861 7334.

I'm sure most ironworks will do this if you ask, especially in this climate.
