A few years ago when we were thinking of buying one we were told that private people were not allowed, you had to buy through a company. You also had to make the truck available 1 day a year for the army.

Is this still applicable?

Thanks

Ozankoys I tried to buy a pick up truck a couple of months ago and was told that I could not because I was not a registerd company and could not go ahead with the purchase.

If that is true it means a huge proportion of people here have a registered company, judging by how many you see driving around!

You can buy one but you need to have residency and then pay around 700tl to change it to a private vechile. We bought our Strada from the garage on corner of the GAU junction and they took us to Lefkosa to do all the paperwork. So yes it can be done.

We have a pick up truck. Changed ownership into personal name quite recently. Thought we may have had problems as also was company owned and registered prior to buying. Was just asked why needed a pick up and what it would be used for.

Oh well it seems that it is the usual thing here you cannot get to the bottom of what the regulations really are it depends who you see on the day & how they are feeling! Think we will give pick up trucks a miss then for the time being.

Thanks for all replies

Yor is correct. You just have to sign a form to say you are using it for private use and not work, when you buy you will have to pay v.a.t. on it, the same as you do in the u.k. but the tax is a lot less than a normal 4x4 about 800 lire for a duel cab, as about 1800 lire for a Shogun "type" vehicle. I owned one for 4 years no problem what so ever.
