Got my mum coming over soon and would like to take her for a drive up to Kantara castle and would like to know if anyone has tried the restaurant up in Kantara for lunch? The drive up there is absolutely stunning but we can't decide if we should call in there (she's a bit of a "picky" eater) or go back to the trusty Tatlisu Belediyesi restaurant???? What does anyone think?

RE msg 1, booitsme: Kantara Restaurant has a limited choice of food, but the place itself is worth an hour or so of contemplating. )Do read about Kantara before you visit the castle - you only see what you know!). It's the only place in the area to cater you. And the Tatlisu Belediyesi restaurant is not just around the corner of Kantara Castle!

P.S. What is a 'picky' eater? British food only? Omg, they sell frozen chips there! Don't stop at the Kantara Restaurant..!

DC - picky as in doesn't like big portions, never finishes a meal and only likes plain food! Don't suppose she would care much if chips are frozen or fresh as, oddly enough for a brit, she's not overly keen on them!!! We've been up to the castle and absolutely loved it but as mum is 80 we'll be limited to taking her up so she can see the view across from the car park! I did take LOTS of photos so she can get some idea of the beauty up there. We drove up the mountain road from the direction of Tatlisu starting from the old coast road then drove back via Kaplica so the Belediyesi is just around the corner for us The Kantara restaurant just looked like such a nice peaceful place but as we had had an early start it wasn't lunch time when we got there and we had taken drinks and fruit with us so didn't stop for a coffee break, maybe next time.

Good basic cafe style food. We usually have fish or kebabs and it is reasonable. The owners are very pleasant !!

I think we'll stop there on our way back down - it's always nice to try somewhere different to where we've been before...................... that is if we can drag mum away from the spectacular view up the mountain

The Kantara restaurant does look really peaceful and relaxing. We went to the castle a few weeks ago and there were a lot of cars outside the restaurant and it looked busy.

Hope its good if you decide to go.

Was the a week last Sunday very sunny but still too cold to eat a meal outside because of the hight above sea level

Lamb cutlets very good freshly cooked roaring log fire inside always enjoy a visit wentg to the castle then back for a coffees just a peaceful place value for money not a gut busting meal but do you want it if your travelling

Stop offs Tatlisu by the sea the council owned seaside place is really good and extended covered restaurant and Bohas (spelt wrong) harbour

Some members may be interested to know more about Kantara Castle (including: roadmap, plan of the castle, text, pics in a photobook and links), before visiting: http://www.allcrusades.com/CASTLES_COUNTRIES/castles_cyprus_overview-3.html

If there are any questions about the castle I'll be pleased to answer them!
