My little male tortoise has lost his mate, ah! He is very lonely and has taken to chatting up stones or anything that looks remotely like a potential mate! I have been to the pet shop in Girne and the Wednesday market a number of times, not a female to be seen anywhere. I am happy to travel to find him a new love interest. Here's hoping!

So sorry to hear of the dilemna. I had two tortoises and they disappeared on me. They were living happily in the garden, and then 'disappeared'. Months later I found a shell with a rotting corpse inside it. I haven't lived down the guilt since. Goodness knows what creature got it, but I felt I should never have brought them home. I thought they might be a couple of regular little breeders, and I could end up with a Tortoise family of my own.

Good luck for your lonely one.

The question is 'are they bringing them in any more'. I got mine at a pet shop at Karaoglanoglu. If it is still there you could be lucky.

Thanks for your comments, I'll pop down to Karaoglanoglu to see what they have. They still bring them in from Turkey for sure, but it seems only the males are dozy enough to be caught, well that's what the wife says!

There are tortoises in the Ardic garden centre shop at Catalkoy, next to Tempo's and he may have one to sell you. Says they are breeding fast. good luck.

Marie it could have been a snake that got yours if they arent too big. My parents had 2 and in the first year one disappeared and then a couple of days later they were lucky enough to catch the other one about to be eaten, in the mouth of a black snake...he had puncture holes in his head and he was making a terrible squeeling sound. They managed to scare off the snake and clean the tortoise up. That was about 4 years ago and he is still going strong...although they arent sure if he is a he or a she!

Many thanks to all on the board you'll be glad hear that Curly has a new mate. Many thanks to everyone at Ardic garden centre, went around to the nursery and got the biggest female I've seen! Not sure what Curly is going to do she is three times as big as he is and moves much faster!

Well finding true was never meant to be easy!! Just means he is going to have to work a little harder....a lesson some of the male humans could do with taking!
