Hi Everyone

The timing is really interesting, this hotel has been a dormant building site for at least three years.

Last years tourist trade was the worst for many years.

The combination of the world's problems coupled with the very weak pound has resulted in a continuation of the downturn in tourist activity.

So logic would suggest this Hotel and the others currently being completed are going to be trading almost without Customers !!.

Or is there something going on which would suggest access to N.C. becoming far easier and more attractive??

regards

Doug

This place looks amazing - we have been watching the progress over the last 3 years - we were out recently and they had started to build the entrance which looks pretty spectacular. Lots of marble being used - have a look at the artists impressions! http://www.corendon.be/cratos-premium/kyrenia/cyprus/hotel?tab=5

Just hope it gets the necessary customers. We visited the Ottoman Savoy last time we were over and it was virtually empty. It was winter, but I cannot imagine that a hotel of those proportions would rely on summer trade only. Turkish man living next door said that the owners were hoping to sell.

I imagine this hotel suffered a three year postponement because the operators have realistic expectations of our tourism prospects.

However, this hotel was built largely with TR Government funding and if it wasn't finished then the TR Government would likely demand their money be returned.

"Using only its own equity capital, BOZGROUP invested US$220 million for a hotel project - Cratos Premium Hotel - Casino - Port - Spa located in Kyrenia (Girne)"

Gordon, was this bit a stretch of the accounts then?

I stand corrected.

Two points:

This hotel project was formulated and submitted in the same period the TR Government made available credits to TR Companies to build tourism projects in the TRNC.

The figure posited for this investment is almost three times more than that given for the Bafra Artemis development.

No worries - I didn't take it like that.

Rather I hadn't seen the article which would appear directly to contradict my speculation.

Has the "Port" part been completed? Perhaps that's what nudged the budget so high. ;)

To be honest we've watched as this place has progressed and yes at times it was difficult to see any outward signs of progress but obviously we have all been wrong. They appear to have been very busy inside at least.

From the outside we thought the building resembled a prison with gun turrets at the corners and all!

Forum members will be interested to know that I have posted the link to this item twice on the Cyprus-Forum (Greek Cypriot) in the last few days.

Both postings have been deleted without reason and I have now had a PM from the Admin asking me not to re-post again, without explanation as to why.

One can only assume that this hotel and all it represents in the TRNC doesn't fit in with their view of the way things should be.
