Yes had one stick on a friends.

Think it could be due to dampness in pump room over "winter"

Fitted replacement, OK now.

Surely you would have noticed the pump running 24/7?

Batgirl,

I think they came back to a large bill meaning they were away...

Ours melted!

Replaced it with one from Super home Centre (4.15 Euros) we'll how how it goes but it's a German made one so I'm hoping it will last...

The '13 Amp plug-in timers' are not really suitable for use in switching a 1 HP motor directly.

The motor presents a 'reactive load' which leads to sparking across the contacts when the timer switches off.

This can lead to either

a) the contacts weld together, so that the pump stays on permanently, or

b) a poor contact leading to overheating (and meltdown!)

I know that a lot of pool companies fit these, but they should only be used to operate a 'contactor' - (that's just a relay between me and you ) so that it's the contactor that handles the high current for the motor.

You can by these from virtually any electrical shop here, or the pump repair place (Press Technik).

If you don't feel competent to fit one yourself, grab an electrician, or get your pool contractor to fit the contactor
