Tonites tunes are in memory of my Dad who was the greatest inspiration in my life, a great man, a man of integrity & honour and respected by much bigger people than me.

These tunes were all introduced to me by him and I can remember those times in my life like they were yesterday

As a kid I always remember in Hong Kong my dads Andy Williams Album and this song has remained with me and, you know wot, i love it , always have done and always will. Andy Williams, Cant take my Eyes Of You

After we were sent to boarding school dad got an Alfa 1750 gtv with a great sound system & i remember saying to him how small it was for all of us & he said, well you guys are only here during holidays & we can have a pool car when your here (pool car being a police pool car, top ranking and all that la la ) and I thought, yes dad how cool is that) this tune is one he played in that car. Steppen Wolf, Born To Be Wild

I remember being in the UK in the car and this track coming on the radio and dad telling me, ‘son, this will be an all time classic’ and how right he was. Gerry Rafferty, Baker Street

When I was 16 I went to a mates for a party coz his folks were away and my Dad found out and came the next day and picked me up, all pissed off and gave me loads of grief, when we were nearly home this tune came on the radio which was just quietly in the back ground and i turned the sound up on the radio and he got really stress y and BANGED it off and glared at me, will never forget it. Thin Lizzy, The Cowboy Song

I remember thinking how cool he was trying to be when he was telling me about this song, being a smart arse teenager but sadly he never got to hear this intro to the song, Love it. Eagles Hotel California Live in Melbourne

Good grief Marcos - just how young are you

In a similar vein (my Dad - a lovely, quiet, very hardworking chap) was born in 1916. He has been dead for many years now. But, he was a huge fan of Nat King Cole and Ray Charles. I used to think he was really out of touch then, but I now love both artistes. My Dad's favourite was "Stardust" by Nat Cole and I still, after all these years, can't hear it without shedding a tear.

Music, I feel, evokes more memories, than anything else.

Well, this has now reduced me to a snivelling wreck and, hopefully, the insomnia has disappeared (for the time being).

All the very best.

Jean

PS We were all smart arsed teenagers, unfortunately

Thank you for those tunes Mark, they have envoked some lovely memories and made me feel really OLD now. I cannot believe that Baker Street is 33 years old........ oh dear.

I particularly liked IZ's Somewhere Over The Rainbow, that one always brings a tear to my eye. You got me searching out my CD by him, my favourite on that is In This Life. I've been blubbering all afternoon.

Jonny came in as I was watching your youtube songs and asked what I was doing, I explained that it was from your memories of your dad and asked him what he remembered me playing in the car when he was young. Imagine when he tells his kids that his mum's music was,

Paradise By The Dashboard Light (Meatloaf)

Fairytale In New York (Pogues)

Red Red Wine (UB 40)

Everything by Van The Man (Obviously)

And that CD by that guy who has a statue in Dublin ( Phil Lynott ) about Whiskey in the jar.

Thing is, he can still remember the words.

I wish now that I could turn the clock back !!!!!!
