I'd join the BRS but their website states you have to have TRNC residency which obviously excludes those who whilst having a property and visit regularly, don't apply for residency.

I thought they had changed that, Hector, or did they change the old to new and back again. I THOUGHT (and I am not a member) that as long as you had a rental agreement or a house contract, plus a British passport, you were eligible. Suggest you check with someone in the committee. If you don't know of anyone, I could give you a phone number.

Didn't the Associate Member concept turn out to be against the Constitution? I thought (and I repeat 'thought) that they made all those who were made 'associate memebrs' into Life Members, but will not accept any new ones, because they made a boob! I agree many do excellent jobs. I think the Blood donating sessions are a great asset to the community, and the organisers are tyring to do more. Recently the staff of the Colony and those in the group that owns it, had a blood donation day, so if anyone can propose another large company that could be approached, BRS in the shape of Prue and Karen would love to know.

I don't think anyone was informed - it kinda happened , and I thought it was last year. I could look it up,l but I am too lazy. It was all connected with some questions asked last year (or year before) when BRS were told what they had done did not conform to the original Constitution, and the amendments they made to allow Associate Membership were indeed illegal. But certainly you continue to be a member, which kinda bugged some people - not that it was YOU that mattered, but the principle.

Just looked upthe web page and it does talk of Associate membership etc. So, where did I dig up the memory of this as above - or maybe they sorted it all out since then. Will ask someone else as to whether I am going dotty(no comment, please)

BRS The biggest lot of self-serving, selfish British expatriate society I've ever come across. Ripped me off for a 'Wine Trip' to Istanbul years ago by being 'off loaded' at the last minute and reimbursed in Lira, having paid in Stg as the Lira was in in free-fall, then having lost considerably! Bunch of idiots! Even worse than the Parisian 'Brit Mafia'! Richard

RE msg 9, Brinsley: Is there anyone in North Cyprus who has *not* ripped you off? P.S. I don't know all of the members of the BRS but I've met several of them and usually found them friendly, helpful British. The BRS doesn't deserve your insults.

Brinsley, for just one moment I was afraid that you would write a normal reply. Not so - this is how we all know you. Well done. :-(
