A powerful vacuun cleaner and ant powder! We had a serious attack of ants a couple of years ago going all round the ceiling in the kitchen. We hoovered them all up and kept at it over a couple of days, put down the ant powder and fingers crossed have not had a repeat episode.

"Ants around your house bring you luck" is an old Turkish Cypriot saying... (True or not true..? ) My never ending war against the ants - I'm lucky enough in TRNC... - is as follows: I walk around the house and try to find the small holes in the concrete, where ants can enter the foundation/house. That's where I concentrate the anti-ant powder. Next: watch if you see them climb the wall (often near your windows, on their way to your kitchen): again powder. The ants will take the powder on their legs to the nest and in the end will destroy the queen, which means the end of the nest. Unfortunately: next, please...

Yesterday I found one about an inch long in the doorway. Needless to say it didn't last long! Then I found half a dozen dead ones in the bathroom but they all had wings. Back in the UK I didn't expect to see them flying til around July. Should we have flying ants now - just one more problem to contend with, ant powder won't stop them.
