I would just like to highly recommend Pacific car rentals. I had seen the company mentioned on Cyprus 44. After a very bad experience with a car rental company last year I can only say that the office and young man who delivered the car were very polite and a pleasure to deal with - the price and eal was exactly as quoted (unlike the previously used company) and the Suzuki was reasonably priced and in immaculate condition. A perfect example of how well this forum can work

Two weeks ago I had to hire a car while my car was being re-purpled! What an eye-opener! In 6 days, I had 2 cars. The first arrived nearly an hour late and then turned out to be a Peugeot 206 and NOT a Ford Fiesta as had been requested. I had 20 mins to get from Alsancak to Near East University, Lefkosa. First shock - no power steering. Eventually found the muscle-power to get it out of the carpark. After 20m had to stop and ask a man for help as my head was practically on the ceiling and I couldn't see anything in the wing mirrors. (would have helped if the left-hand side one wasn't hanging off). He helped me adjust the seat and managed to move the rhs mirror so I could see a bit of what was behind me. Then he cleaned the windscreen cos it was filthy and asked how much I'd paid for the heap of junk. Off we set again, next shock, the brakes weren't exactly brilliant. No problem, just stay well behind the car in front. Everytime I put my foot on the accelerator I was zoomed into orbit!

Quite enjoyed that bit!! Someone had definitely been playing with the engine, I used to do the same to a ford escort in england years ago, you could turn something and it made the engine speed up. (really technical, sorry). Anyway got to uni and my students screamed with mirth at the car. One of them pointed out the accelerator pedal ......OR LACK OF IT|!!!!!! There was just a piece of metal sticking out. I hadn't even noticed so intent was I on getting to uni in one piece. Another thing it did was everytime I went round a corner, there was an awful noise somewhere underneath of crunching metal which did worry me a bit. Changed this car and managed to find another. |The second car refused to start on the second morning. The battery was dead. When the car hire man came to check it, he muttered and broke a twig off the nearby tree and started cleaning the oxide off. (The battery was extremely old looking). I was furious and said how could they send out a car with a battery like that when

maybe tourists had rented it and the car had broken down in Karpaz, for example. They changed the battery with one of the other cars and this was the car I used for the next couple of days. So, if you find a good car-hire place, please do recommend it as I was shocked by my experience of hire-cars here. Some of the cars are death-traps, others are just unmaintained and unreliable. Be careful.

Hi ClaireCat

I totally agree with you - some of the hire companies here hire out cars that should have been scrapped years ago. They attract customers with low prices - but they are hiring out death-traps.

I would just like to clarify to anyone who may have misunderstood your postings that the expericences you had were not with Pacific!!

Infact we get a lot of comments like yours from people who have hired cheap death traps and subsequently given them back and come to us for a properly maintained and serviced vehicle.

We should adopt a new catchphrase "should have gone to Pacific"!!!

Just got back today and we had a Pacific Rental Car, bit old it was a Nissan Sunny, but I only booked a cheapy, the aircon packed up so I took it back, and it was fixed in half an hour (thanks Sue), but cannot fault their service for dropping off and leaving car at Ercan.

By the way Hi Liz nice to have met you.

I keep hearing Pacific Car Rentals from almost everyone! Seems their service is great!.

Just one thing, though. Not just Pacific, but all car rentals hire cars for at least 3 days. I really wonder why.

Another thing makes Pacifc outstanding is their 7/24 available emergiency phone.

All car descriptions are on their web site they never hide anything wheather about price or car's condition.

Natnatallie, thank you so much for pointing out the error of my ways. I realise now that my comment was completely inappropriate and should definitely not have been posted on this thread.
