One day your new or old Mac may irreparably crash (hardware or software) - but you MUST have access to the (information on your) computer. To print something important. Or find some essential information. Or a dozen other reasons. But - your Mac has given up. For ever or at least for the moment. What to do?

You could email in an Internet cafe. But that's about all.

It happened to me this morning - it looked like my faithful PowerBook G4 had finally done its last task. Panic!

That's how I got this idea. If you're struck with a Mac disaster - ask another Mac user for immediate help by phone. If you've backed up (completely as a bootable back up or on external USB or FireWire drives) you can go to a fellow Mac user and connect your back up drive to his/her computer. Or connect two Macs in target mode. Or... plenty of ways to help each other.

If you are a Mac user and willing to help or get help at once when you really need it: send me an email now (before it is too late!): hansdoeleman@allcrusades.com AND your mobile phone number. I'll put your info in a small database, which I'll only use for the purpose mentioned above.

When you (or me!) have a serious problem, you phone me and I'll try to find someone who can and want to help you. No need to say that I participate in such a scheme. And as an old hand on the Mac I'm always willing to answer questions.

Please consider this appeal seriously - even Macs and the most stable Operating System in the world, OS X, do crash...

Thanks, Mick! I counted you in already when I wrote this message...

Another example to convince Mac users in TRNC (this really happened): a couple of weeks ago a gentleman in Lapta called me for some help with his crashed iMac, which had never been maintained in any way. I connected my drive with a stripped OS and many tools to his iMac and after a night of rebuilding the directory, defrag the hard drive, repairing the permissions and updating his Operating System the iMac was in excellent shape again. Knowing someone may mean the difference between panic and ease of mind again.

In a TRNC "Mac Users Group" (MUG), like they exist in the UK, Holland ans many other countries, we could also exchange info about Mac dealers in the South and Turkey, OS updates and upgrades, printer problems etc etc etc. No money involved - just some good will to help each other.

The TRNC "Mac Users Group" (MUG) has five members now! Please join now if you use a Mac in TRNC permanently or only if you're here for holidays - I don't want to frighten you but you never know when you need help or advice...

You wont find anything more stable then a MAC! and i was in the computer supply and repair business for 5 years, I specialised in repairing Windows based PC's cos that was where the money was!!! Try and find a mac user who converts back to windows and i will eat my macbook lol

Msg 11: I've never had any trouble with my PC crashing (Hope this is not tempting fate), yet in the first 4 messages on this thread two mac's have crashed badly!

Count me in. Might be worth considering setting up an Apple/Mac usergroup like ElmaSuyu.net which is based in Turkey? The admin of that group speaks English and is a mine of information on everything Apple.

Msg 13: Go on then, tell us how old the PC is, what O/S it runs on and how much use it gets!

If you can't figure out which O/S it has nip it around to your local PC repair shop - there will be one near you for sure - then find a Mac repair shop the same distance away. From memory there was only one place in Bristol that would take in a Mac for repair, and they had to send it away!!! No a busted PC you could get fixed anywhere!!!

What you can do on a PC box you can do better and much easier on a Mac. Please stay out of this thread if you are a Windoze user - this thread was and is meant for Mac users only. Read the subject title again, please. Thank you.

Twelve Mac users as members of "TRNC Mac Users Group" after one day - not bad, I think! I'll go on collecting and than email all of you. In the mean time I'll try to reply to two email questions via email.

Please register us as well please. We are only over for two or three times each year but are happy to join since Macs are our world for work and we would be lost without it.
