Medical experts now believe that transcendental meditation can be used to treat high blood pressure and psychological problems.

Right, all after me - "ooommmmmmm" follwed by,

"Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare"

Now check your blood pressure. Nurseawful should be able to help you with this.

"ooommmmmmm"

TM don't chant, the instant method of lowering your blood pressure is to make a small hole in an artery.

Now to inject a serious note into this rich vein of nonsense, I've noted some awesomely high blood pressures posted on other threads...I think Nige may have been one. It is in fact a very serious problem which can turn seriouser in the beat of a heart.

So I'm going to share a remedy with you all which actually works in lowering high blood pressure, and it's totally natural. I hasten to add that I am not spiritual, vegetarian, Vegan or trying to promote someone's fad diet. I went on a diet of this stuff because it was supposed to be an anti-cancer diet, and that may even have succeeded as well. But certainly my blood pressure, cholesterols and PSA readings all dropped significantly.

The magic potion is buckwheat. You don't need to go on the whole diet, which takes strength of character, but just take some buckwheat porridge for breakfast. After a week or two, your blood pressure will have dropped noticeably.

Don't send money, just a simple thank you will suffice.

Oh no not Buckwheat!

It is part of the staple diet out in Azerbaijan and they have big problems with high blood pressure and a high rate of heart attacks. But maybe that has something to do with the copious amounts of vodka that they drink.

Seriously Buckwheat is not for me. I have eaten a lot of bizarre and strange things in my time but I will never eat Buckwheat again.

Bill

It is hard to describe but from what I can remember it is like eating corn husk's that have no taste and just seem to expand on their way down through your gullet leaving you bloated and without any of the satisfaction that normal eating should bring.

Give me sheep's brains and ram's testicles any time.

AJ, I've eaten a few bizarre and strange things in my time too, OZ witchetty grubs among them, but I really don't think buckwheat could be classified in that category. And eating it is nothing like your description either.

However, you don't eat it for pleasure - you eat it to lower your blood pressure. Which is what it certainly does.

Lambs brains, on the other hand, are one of this world's real culinary delights.

No Liz, it's nothing like wheatgrass. You just boil it up into porridge, add a little olive oil and milk if you want. It doesn't have much taste, but as I said, you don't eat it for the taste.

Mersin, I have no idea what your remedy is, but if it's medication, then don't go off it. Just try the buckwheat with it and see what happens. I have a good mate in Australia who did exactly that, and his blood pressure now is lower than it has ever been.

Sorry Ballyboffin, in TRNC I have no idea. It's freely available in most western countries, and abundant in China and other Asian countries, but for example you can't find it in Saudi Arabia although you can in Bahrain.

Ask around, and if no go try to get some from the UK...it usually comes in half-kilo packets.

Sorry too, No. 1, if you find all this amusing. I'm simply passing on something in good faith which I've found to be very effective. You keep on chanting if it helps...

I've been able to drop my bp by 20 points using deep breathing exercises, the only problem is that you can't do them all day long and so your bp goes back to "normal" soon after you stop. Good for fooling the doctor though. One curious fact, just thinking about your blood pressure seems to raise it and so getting out of this thread quickly might be the answer.

Bill - must agree with Chris - if that is really your BP you really do need help - and quick!

And, unusually for me, I'm not joking. Sod the bulga wheat or whatever and go and see your GP.

Rotto, thank you for that, I am off to Cyprus next week and am taking some with me.

I bought it in Tesco today. I am going to have it with Weetabix and will let you know how it goes. I have been diagnosed with 'White Coat Syndrome' eg. Scared witless when there is a nurse taking my BP. Comes from my childhood... long story.

I have practised Yoga for the last 20 years and have done the deep breathing execises when getting the test, only to have readings that are on the high level then fall dramaticlally when I breathe deeply, so they cannot get a true reading.

A lot of this blood pressure thing is down to stress and Jeez' there is a lot of that in LIFE !!!!!

Ballyboffin, good luck with it. You should take about half a cup of buckwheat in about 2 cups of water and boil for around 15-20 minutes. Add some EVOO and milk if you want it to taste better.

Test your BP readings after a week.
