Hi,

I would love to work within wedding planning - currently live in UK but looking at moving to Cyprus at some point - does anyone have ideas of who I can contact for work?

Thanks.

I think most of the wedding planners here are self-employed and work on their own but I could be wrong. Try the advert that appears above your post

Teresa reads this and is a contributor! But yes, most of them are self employed or independent, There is also Vashti, Carol, Jade and some holiday companies . A couple of others have tried, but the market does seem to be fairly 'saturated' at the moment, but no harm in asking around. Maybe Teresa will pick this up and write to you!

Good luck!

I don't understand this wedding planner thingy - surely it is a) find willing (innocent victim) male, b) drag to nearest church with promises of 'wedding night...' c) have pit bull type mother who will make sure male turns up d) have stag night night before wedding so if male has second/third etc thoughts will be too hung over to do anything about it???

What's the problem???

Alana, silly boy, you forgot to mention the £1,000 engagement ring, and make him promise to

provide for you and take care of you for the rest of his life !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Back to the subjuect, Gul, I'm sure Teresa or Vashti will reply to your post once they see it.

Why don't you get in touch with Hairdressers and Mayeup artists who could refer brides to you. Also bridal shops. But the thing here is that everyone wants to get involved so the Bride has too much advice as opposed to none at all.

Another idea is to do a few high society weddings and have your pic in a few wellknown daily papers like kibris. People here like to be in fashion.

I wanted a photographer to come and take photo's of my baby in the hospital and at home to prepare a new born album and she said she would never go through that again as there are too many interfering relatives (mothers and grandmas) who always contradict everyone else and try to control all the situations.

So good luck with this venture,

Good Idea thank you - I am def looking at completing a course whilst here in UK and visiting in August for a holiday/job search etc. I got married at the Malpas in August - and would have loved to be referred to a Wedding Planner as I had so many diff contacts - although one point of contact would have been perfect. Thanks for your ideas though.

Hi Gul

Sorry been busy planning my own sons wedding, as has already been said there are many wedding planners on the island also each hotel has its own planner to take care of their own bookings. Not trying to put you off but just trying to give you a clear picture. Most Turkish brides have the wedding organised by family so that only leaves the tourist weddings. The legal side of things would mean work permits being registered with the tax office ect ect and to be 100% honest there is just not enough work to cover the costs of being self employed.

Good luck in whatever you decide to do.

Teresa has hit the nail on the head. One would only be organising for 'foreigners' either resident here or flying in for the event. Locals do it themselves using all the local florists, caterers, etc, etc, and also as Teresa says, each hotel has their own wedding planners, who are often part of a tour company as well.

Also reading between the lines form Teresa's posting, there is verylittle room for wedding planners to take on 'staff', and if foreigners then a work permit is required, or you would have to become a business which (I think) you must have a TC partner who will 'own' 51% of the business, and you have to lodge a fairly large sum of money with the government.

But who knows - there are exceptions to every rule.

I would be happy to meet youwhen I come over. It might be good for you to meet a young lady called Jade who is a London TC, and she runs a wedding planning co, but it is under the banner of a larger organisation. Avon has reached here, but there could be room for more. Don't know much about that myself. But as you are TC then obviously there are lots of potential doors that are not open to other U.K. citizens.

Good luck in the planning of it all.
