Following on from last weeks Cyprus Today whose front page gave space for two Cypriot gentlemen to lambast the Brits for bringing down the construction sector, we now have Brian somebody doing the same in the Cyprus Star or whatever they choose to call it nowadays. The main area of complaint in the Star was bulletin boards like this one, which brings rise to three questions. Was he right to have a go at the people who air their grievances in this way? Given that he is in the pay of a property developer should he be taken seriously? Should we or anyone else take this rag seriously? Discuss.

No, no and no to those three questions, newscoop. Given your handle, you may well agree with me and understand the reasoning.

No, we should not take this rag seriously or any rag whose ownership are or have been involved in illegal practices! Although I have to chuckle at todays front page regarding the boy having to take his test in trousers, when I took my test I wore the shortest skirt possible, the examiner didn't seem to mind and I passed first time!

Jock1, ki a bit like a kilt, not as heavy and above the knee, I suspect that there are a few ways to pass your test in the TRNC, 1,wear a short skirt (females and Scots only)! 2. give the examiner a jar of pickled waluts before the test (examiners love this exspensive delicassy) 3, marry an examiner, 4 don't bother with a driving test like your neighbour!

given that the london mayors aide was forced to resign for saying " if blacks that have moved to the uk do not like it they can always go back to their own country " perhaps we will have resignations here..................... I fear not.

Isn't Brian a member on one/some of these boards? I seem to remember someone called Brian telling us all that he had got a job with that particular piece of bum wad (no offence intended to anyone but it's not worth reading so you may as well get some other use out of it).

The Cyprys Star isnt going to print the truth about what is going on here with the property related problems because its owned by one of the biggest developers here. Does he seriously think we are all stupid enough to believe what he says? Its not an independant rag atall. The british community should boycott this paper.

cocos, As I repeatedly say, everyone is entitled to their opion. If someone does not agree with that opinion to say ban or boycott is just a negative reaction. If you know what this paper is like do not read it. Others like some of the things in it so will continue to buy and laugh at the garbage printed by the owner. I read the first 2 issues and that was enough to know not to waste my money. If you follow your argument should we stop reading Cyprus Today cos it is part of the group that whole heartedly supports the government here that many see as "the problem" for home buyers. You will find that all of the newspapers here, just like the UK, are biased to a political viewpoint. Some more than others.

I know this is my first post but I think the point is while all are entitled to their own opinions surely someone in the public eye should be more circumspect in what he or she chooses to put into print. This paper is still young and trying to establish an identity but clearly it should not be used to further a particular agenda as seems to be the case.

I personally look forward to a loo roll shortage in TRNC, and, then the Cyprus Star will be used to its most advantageous purpose -- on a nail in the "smallest room".

Moaning Brits, If I give someone £104,000 of my hard earned (and tax paid) cash. I expect to know what is going on with my investment. I expect to get what I contracted for. I expect the law of the country to support me. I expect to be treated with respect, just as I treat those who I deal with with respect. I expect to be told the truth!. Now then, I have done my bit.....................Wynyardman No1 Moaning Brit!. Try looking in the mirror in a morning........You might have a shock! wyn ...........( there are exceptions to this theme!) You know who I am talking to!

Somebody has to punt the place. At least the content is all positive. Great new paper, even if it is a bit overly egotistic. We need positive words all the time. Skogs

wyn I totally agree! I still want to know where my pension fund with Equitable Life went! Or my shareholding in Marconi! Or why my Council Tax has trebled! Fuel doubled! Gas trebled! Crime doubled! Etc! Etc! That's why I want to leave being a moaning Brit behind and accept that nothing's perfect anywhere, but at least I want a more relaxed life in NC! I promise I won't moan much! Unless about moaning ex-pats of course.

Now you cant even read it online,, you have to cough up to see what medviews latest deals are.. At least you can save on the bog roll. There again, I would be careful about the ink used, may leave the news imprint where it belongs. A bit slow catching up on the forum.

hi nunu1,i must agree with your statement above.all we have had from this labour goverment over the last 11 years is state control of the masses. and stealth tax,s with more im sure too come.the only good thing i think they have done was to introduce the minimum wage.in a news paper article today cherie blair is quoted as saying she compairs her tony to winston churchill.!!! churchill and the people saved this country and tony and the labour goverment gave it away.

nunu1 Sir Winston Churchill was a Conservative, except on the occasions when he fell out with the hierarchy and he became a Cross Bencher. It is still legal I believe!!!!! LOL As for Cyprus Star, read the first 2 editions and was glad I did not pay for it!!! Even worse than CT IMO.

May I make a comment as an Italian about this myth of the Moaning Brits. It is a reputation that is unfounded and my family who live in UK often comment about the patience Brits have when queuing for instance. Maybe the letting off steam via the written word is one the reasons that Britain is stable and democratic country and admired for that around the world. In Italy, certainly in the past, when we haven't liked something there have been riots! In the UK the average Brit is so patient about everything that goes wrong. The majority of Brits are still extremely well mannered. It's time Brits stopped putting themselves down and even more ludicrous when I hear and read comments like those made in Cyprus Today about Brits being moaners and the cause of the troubles in the construction industry here. The problems here are the dishonest bulders and estate agents. Frankly they are lucky the Brits are still here!
