Try driving around in Northumberland! Just come back from the frozen north of the UK and couldn't believe the state of the roads after the winter snows. They're so bad they even had a news article on the TV warning those about to head off on their motorbikes for the easter weekend to watch out for huge pot holes!!!! Can you believe - a 15 minute news piece but no action? See, there are some things better here in Cyprus (actually there's lots of things better here, but too many to mention) So be warned if you're planning a trip to the north east of England in the near future.

i was watching some workers filling in these pot holes that they had filled in october , they were just filling them in and not impacting them . No wonder they are back in the same position 6mnths later . i'm sure if they did them properly they would have lasted longer .What a waste of time and money !

We never get pot holes here in cyprus. Only holes where the road used to be.

Oops, sorry Simbas I was at cross purposes to you! Seems like the pothole problem is nationwide in the UK!

The roads here in North Wales have always been poor. Now after the frost and snow they are dreadful...Pretty much the same all over the UK I think!

When roads are given tarmac in Cyprus cause for celebration by why does it seem that immediately builders, or perhaps anyone, can dig trenches across the new roads to facilitate the laying of power or water pipes, then fill them in with no more than dirt with the inevitable consequences. It invariably seems to be that no matter what side of the road is the new building, the lines will come from the opposite side! There are more than 50 instances of this between the Golden Lady and home and I know this because if my Wildebeest (bless her) is driving we hit everyone of them without a reduction in speed to walking pace. Effes and passenger become incompatible and when I get home I have to deny that I am p.......d !

Girne 22 - both my parents are still living in the UK. Once they pass away (hopefully not for a long time) I won't be going back!!!

Well our road is brilliant, and clean ! Yesterday a group of five young men from the beledirye, armed with sweeping brushes, came up and swept the tarmac, how's that for attention to detail.

Hattkins, My road is also brilliant and requires no sweeping! Hows that for attention to detail?

Sorry Girne29 I've just realised I demoted you to 22!!! I really do have days where the typos run away with me! I do know exactly what you mean though. I love my life here and wouldn't change a thing I just wish I had made the move earlier!

Local radio in Lanarkshire, Scotland are running a competition on the pothole of the day and the winner gets a free service and valet for their car. Today the winner stood his 5'5" wife in the pothole in the middle of the road and the edge came up to her knees. Thankfully he still liked her a bit and rescued her. Lots of silly people taking weird photos with their mobiles. Funny when you tune in to the radio comments. So life over there road wise is definately not too bad.
