Just had an e mail from a friend of mine who has heard that Listerine moushwash is absolutely brilliant for seeing these little buggers off.

Apparently, if you get a large bottle and transfer it into a spray, spray around doors, windows, etc. and spray it on yourself, it works wonders.

Haven't yet tried it, but worth a go, particularly as it isn't expensive.

Anyone else heard of this?

After six years of trials of almost everything anti-mosquitos available I stick to products with "beet". I bought the first spray in Holland, but later read on this board that such products are available in TRNC also.

RE msg 4, come_on_aylin: Sorry, you're right: it's called "Deet". I had to go upstairs to check it... I have this "Care Plus with Deet" as a lotion and as a spray. (It reads on the box: "Repels biting insects and ticks" for ten hours).

I don't have any experiences with strap-ons...but agree that DEET is the most effective repellent on the market. We had wicked mosquitos in New Orleans. And we tried everything especially natural products like eucalyptus and other essential oils. Nothing worked well enough. I am sharing this story with you because it is also important for those who use DEET to remember that you should wash it off of your body. It's not like tanning lotion or perfume in that you spray it on and forget about it. It does have a toxicity level and it is essentially poison that you are spreading all over your body. So when you do use it, better to think of it as armor rather than perfume!

I will try Listerine though. But I think a simple spray bottle should do the trick, no?

However back to the subject ....We bought a product called 'OFF' that worked for us.

Hi

Don't forget the normal check-list: One a day garlic capsule and vitamin B tablet, Avon 'Skin so Soft' dry oil spray and the plug-in mozzie killers.

Hey Blackbird. Just FYI, Off had DEET in it. Which is why it is effective. I use that one too.

JoValentine, thanks for reminding me about the garlic! I read that awhile back and wanted to try it out. Will try it when I arrive. I do prefer a natural remedy. However, working out in the gym, there was a woman who took garlic pills orally and would sweat it out doing cardio. She had the entire gym stinking! I'll use it as long as my husband still bites!

If you know anyone who is going to Goa ask them to bring you a product back called ODOMOS, it is available in cream or spray. I an usually a walking/talking/sleeping banquet for the little beasties. I have been 5 times and used this and have never had one bite. I use the cream and it costs about 60p for a tube which is good for nearly a week. I went earlier this year and brought back 20 tubes. I also take the garlic capsules but its best to start taking them a couple of weeks before you go then one a day when there.

I really need help with this one, it seems as soon as my plane land lands, the mosquito internet goes into overdrive, and they all head towards Alsancak, do not know whether its my blood group or whether it is they have a good size target, which ever it is within hours I have got stung, then a couple of days of suffering before heading towards the chemist for an antihismine injection, this dispite taking piriton three days before travelling, and then all the time I am out there.

My question is which is the best form of anti-mosquito (apart from a net) is used at night, we have tried the Vape spirals which are resonally affective but have great trouble in seperating them and normally waste more than we use due to breakages, we are now trying the electric type with the blue capsules, how effective are these against mozzies and sandflys, believe it or not I am itching as I write this just thinking about them

Hi All good morning

Lot's of good advice about prevention but what when you have been bitten.

I have pasted below a web address that explains about this little gadget and where you can buy it.

They are brilliant and I never go out in the evenings or early mornings without one in my pocket.

Once you feel a bite you press the clicker on the area of the bite press the button and it sends a little electric charge which neutralizes the bite/itch.

I would describe the feeling as a very light pin prick, you can use them on children my two grandchildren think nothing about a "click" especially as they know it cures the bite itch.

Go out at night and really forget about the "mossies"

regards

Doug
