Can't help notice that a lot of bars are advertising events this weekend including sunday. The last two parliamentary and presidential elections it has been against the law for bars to open while voting goes on. In both instances they could only open at either 18:00 or 19:00 when voting ended. In the 1990's bars could open but TC's could not be served. Has the law changed again this year or are bar owners simply unprepared?

Have just been informed that your every day shops will be closed. The bars will also be closed and will re-open upon the closure of the elections. You may find the odd bar open..

I cannot understand the rational behind this. The voter gets so pissed he/she can't see which box to put the X in? As the majority of inhabitants cannot vote anyway, what's the point of penalising even further the struggling bars and restaurants! Richard

Mr Brown has said that the bars in the Uk are to open on election day and try to serve as much drink as possible because the voters get stupid when drunk and might vote for him

Suffrage here is universal on attaining majority. There is an alcohol ban on poll-days because we take our democracy extremely seriously. Would that some others would as well...

RE msg 12, Brinsley: (...) vasts amounts of money for your over priced maps. Pay income tax on this income? (...) => 1) Want your money back? No problem. 2) Consult my accountant in Girne. I'll be pleased to accompany you. (...) vasts amounts of money for your lectures. Pay income tax on this income? (...) => It's none of your business, but in this case you may again consult my accountant in Girne. What I've spent and still spend on research about medieval Cyprus doesn't even cover the "vast amounts of money" you say I make. What a cheap shot from a sad and lonely moaner, Richard.

Coo-ee. Old Mother Wick here, off her broomstick once again and it's not even Halloween! Still, a New Moon tonight and so I'm using a bit of 'poetic licence'. Brinsley, you never cease to amaze me, you really don't! You have the front to criticise others' use of the English language when, over the last couple of hours only, I have picked up numerous spelling/grammatical errors of yours! By the way, 'rational' should be spelt, in the context in which you used it, "rationale". Still, as you know, I'm not one to nitpick. With regard to your posting on another thread (which I really cannot be bothered to look up), you waxed lyrical about the fact that you only groan in bed, etc. etc. My God, old man, you're either on another planet or you've got a bloody good memory See - I was joking - note the smiley face. Incidentally, I now have a slight advantage over you - I (unfortunately) know what you look like. Continued ..

I watched the video/saw the photos of the fundraiser at Guidos. I will be perfectly honest, I did, at first, think the Turkish Mafia had infiltrated Guidos, but, then, it all became plain - the dodgy looking B..... in the snaps was you! Well, credit where credit is due, you look nothing like I expected. Old Mother Wick a.k.a. Jean

Oh Brinster - that was a little sad, even for you! You are, by all accounts, a typical Antipodean. You don't like women with anything between their ears (unless it's a male body part), you rise to anything I put on here mentioning your name or, indeed, criticising anything you have made comment on. Tell me, Richard, what is it about me that you so despise? I couldn't, incidentally, give a flying f..k, but I must admit I am curious. I could, of course, take you back to when you first starting insulting me. It was around the time when you first started posting. I mentioned the term "BB" - meaning bulletin board and you, at the time, didn't know what the abbreviation meant. Now, rather than asking, you questioned whether my keyboard skills were up to typing more than abbreviations and also, if I remember correctly, whether I could spell certain words or was I just limited to abbreviations? So, what is it about me that you dislike so much? Possibly the fact that I am female and

continued... reasonably intelligent? You have accused myself and my husband of being the "type of person that N Cypus doesn't want" - i.e. you suggested that we were covered in tattoos and wore Union Jack shorts. Your insults have known no bounds. You have met neither one of us and yet you have deigned to pass comment on us. I'll tell you what you don't like. Anyone who stands up against you. You're coward and a bully. I've pointed out before on here that when you are faced with a question that you cannot answer, you disappear. Richard, you are a bitter, lonely old man, and for that, I feel sorry for you. Jean

Msg 26 I do not know you nor wish to, as you probably have the same said sentiments about me. You and I, having been warned before by Moderators on C44, should not engage in any form of communication or slanging matches and avoid retorts to each others posts, so please adhere to it! Richard

Oh dear, Oh dear! Is this what your (in your opinion) passes for acerbic wit? Richard - you are, sadly, an old cliche. Your ridiculous "innuendos" (and I use the term very loosely) are stale, boring and not, I'm afraid to say, remotely funny. They may, of course, be funny in your native land, and to the odd person on here. For example "the thousands of girlfriends you left behind", etc. but to most of us, they are as about as funny as gumboils. Incidentally, you are easier to wind up than a clockwork train Yours
