Ive been keeping an eye on the old exchange rates since about November last year (1 pound gets 2.52 lira) I know its a bit sad but it seems to be the first thing i do after booking flights to keep my morale up before my holiday!! And obviously http://www.nigelheasman.com/wview/img/Current_Plus.htm for the weather!!

Anyway ive been waiting to change £100 pounds to take with me but they are now only offering 2.28 to the pound with a steady dropping trend literally from when i started watching!!!

Should i just bite the bullet and take the loss or wait till it possibly rises again?

Ive only got a month to decide!!!

Any advice welcome ;)

Take sterling with you and change it up as you go - anyhow - all shops, stores, restaurants and bars will take your sterling and do an instant exchange in any event.

Just do not worry, bring your £100 pounds out with you and change it here. You will get a better exchange rate.

The pound is weak against all currencies not just the lira, don't change it in England, wait til you get here, maybe by then you will get 2.35.

If you are only changing £100 it won't make an awful lot of difference. Changing your money here in TRNC you will get somewhere around 2.35TL to the pound (235TL) rather than 2.28 (228TL) in UK. The 7TL difference should be enough to buy you 2 beers !!

Enjoy your holiday.

Sorry, I didn't mean to infer that current exchange rate is 2.35 but was using it to demonstrate that if you are only changing £100, the difference between 2.28 and 2.35 is very small.

I seem to remember that someone on the forum posted a link to a graph to show how the exchange rate habitually rises and falls according to the month of the year. Can't seem to find it now but I think it showed that the rate usually goes up in the summer months (migh be mistaken, though) ;-)

Wait for the UK elections to be over and for there not to be a hung parliament and the rate might be better.

Thanks for all your replies but all i mean is if the rate has changed so much will i seriously notice the difference in prices? eg say i changed 1000 (just for round number purposes) in November i would have got 2520 but now i only get 2280 lira! thats a 240 drop or in simple terms like for like my money is going to cost me 100 pounds more for the same amount as last year. Have the prices over there risen at all from last year?

Sorry if i sound like im winging but everyone was telling me the pound was starting to get stronger but now ive noticed otherwise! Im really starting to hate the uk especially when it effects my holidays!! lol

watch the exchange rate here. always between the 1st and 7th of the month the rate is better.

There is a reason behind that.
