It would help if you can drive without the aid of a white walking stick as most of the 'natives' seem too!

You also have to remove the mirrors as they serve no purpose, you also have to have a fag stuck in your gob, moblie phone in one hand and a frappe coffee in the other and a child sat on your knee to obstruct your vision

Seat belts and the use of indicators are also optional.

Headlight use day or night is optional as it causes wear and tear on the alternator and diminishes battery life!

Tracy. Do you own a car here, or are you renting one here or are you bringing one over?

Tracey. You are required to have two (2) warning triangles plus a First Aid Kit.

Whilst coming back home one day there was an accident in front of us and I with a friend went to help.

Being first aid trained ( ex forces ) we were using our own kit but needed some more so my friend asked the locals who had gathered around for another first aid kit. One man went to his car and came back with a toilet roll and a bottle of water.

From previous postings on this subject it appears that the police often make the rules up on the day you are stopped!

To avoid a fine I have mud flaps, first aid kit, triangle and a fire extinguisher.

I also regularly check my tyres and lights....just in case.

Tracy, I can only endorse Puppylover's comments.

Experience leads us to offer cynical responses to your question. Sorry, but that is how it all seems to us. Not nastiness, but bitter experience.

Sadly, the 'law' here may be made up on the spot depending how short the policeman is of cash at that particular time. And the TC speeding past when you have been stopped, with 4 little kids on his motorbike, will be ignored because he is Uncle Ali.

First Aid Box, Triangle and Fire extinguisher. Clearly insurance drivers license and the registration documents of the vehicle. You will not get the "MOT" without rear mud flaps or broken mirrors.

Tracy, you can buy a kit here at the car spares/accessories shop behind The Colony which contains the triangle, fire extinguisher & a sort of first aid kit, was not expensive either from memory.

first aid kit (including tourniquet) 2 warning triangles and a fire extinguisher.

Anyone that needs to be told to carry a torch, shouldn't be driving. Even here.

Tracy dont forget to keep your pair of high vis jackets in the car not boot if you drive through France and put them on if you have to stop at the roadside other wise the nice french police take you to the cash point

Never said everybody did, didn't even know it was a requirement here, merely saying that if you need "telling" something so obvious, you shouldn't be driving.

Spare fan belt, wipers, pump and tape, block of wood, plus sundry tools are a must for me.
