| I am reliably informed that in the Famagusta area Talat has taken the lead at long last. If that is repeated elsewhere it is very good news for all our futures. A settlement will be agreed, the Greek side will hold a referendum which will vote OXI - because the church over there will tell their congregation to vote that way or face eternal damnation. The International Comunity, correctly blaming the Greek Cypriots, will lift all sanction on ther KKTC. Turkey will get into the EU. Roll on Sunday - and hope a majority get behind Talat. | The Tories are ahead in Witney, if this is repeated around the country then they will have a landslide victory. Mind you Labour is ahead in Kirkaldy, if this is repeated around the country then they will have a landslide victory. |

What has U.K to do with our election on Sunday. I reckon for us living here it is far more important as to who is voted in as President than what is happening in Barking, Benfleet or Birmingham. Having been in the presence of both men at receptions, any doubts I had about the suitability of Talat over Eroglu were dispelled, but I do know that many Turkish Cypriots have lost confidence in Talat, but I reckon they overlooked the almost impossible task he had of following Denktash, and he has, as someone put it 'Grown in Stature! Listening to Talat yesterday, I believed him to be sincere in all he said, especially the bit baout hoping initial that Christofias would change his stance, and realising now that he won't. But that as the north has played a cool game and not played naughty games, the standing of the north has risen in the eyes of the global community, and therefore if the south says 'No' then it could be full steam ahead for a better life for the north.

I see the yobs have been out defacing the big Talat banners! Cutting his image out of lots in Lefkosa... Says a lot about Eroglu's supporters I guess... Let's hope yesterday's man (Eroglu) does not triumph...

I would'nt be too quick to blame Eroglu supporters for vandalising Talat posters... Think about it. In previous posts I may have shown support for Talat, now I pray that anyone but Talat wins the presidential election on Sunday. The TC people have been consistantly conned & lied to for the past 7 years. The facts are that Turkey will never get into the EU, Cyprus will never be re-united & the GC's will continue with their usual propoganda. TC's are being played

StonehousePub, you are the second person this week from whom I have heard 'Talat lied'. Please can you tell me what those lies were and in what circumstances. I am intrigued. I still agree with the statement that Talat made about the future if the G.Csay 'No (as mentioned above)

Talat, a desperate man, looking towards the future?! What has he done during his past incumbency? With foresight, he could have given and resolved expatriate grievances, got them the vote and then he would have been 'quids' in. But no, he procrastinates about further meetings which get nowhere except for a free lunch at tax payers expense! Richard

Ifs & buts, do you not realise who determines the future of the Cyprus ? Talat has personally lied to me on two occasions in the past 3 years. He has lied to his people regards what agreements have been so far made between the 2 leaders at the negotiating table, he has lied about his policy's regards Turkish nationals who are settled in the TRNC these are the two most recent I can think of. Speculative statements are rife in politics but let me remind you that politics in Cyprus is like no other place in the world. The South have said NO before so there is no reason why they cannot say no again, the only thing that has now changed is that the TC's will also say NO

All politicians lie! It's all very well concentrating on the "Cyprus Issue" but what about problems closer to home? Neither Talat nor Eroglu have done much that's been positive for the economy or sorting out the construction problems, which affect thousands of expats and TCs, IMHO. They have both been aware of the problems for years and yet they choose to do nothing. In that respect, neither of them seem to love their country enough to make changes that benefit all residents here and the reputation and credibility of the TRNC. Unfortunately, a vote for any of the other candiates would be a lost vote, I think. So, I'd better get my thinking cap on before tommorrow!

Even if I were allowed to vote, I wouldn't walk across the road to vote for either of them. And why? For the very reasons that 'kibrissibel' has quoted in the above message, which tells it how it is and says it all! Any vote will, by their past 'track record', be a 'lost vote' anyway, as neither appears to have the will to improve the lot of the average (not the government workers) TC businessman, or citizen. Meanwhile, as I'm sitting here writing this, the hullabaloo from the 'party supporters' is deafening and their driving simply irresponsible and downright dangerous. And for what is all this hyper excitement - more of the same... ???

When Eroğlu's party was last in power it was words words words and what did they achieve - absolutely nothing. At least Talat has got the ear of the international community and has had constructive (albeit secret) dialogue with the GC's. With Eroğlu I'm afraid were back to square one. Whilst this may be of advantage to short-sighted TC's, in the long term this loses us the moral high ground that we gained through the ECHR decision. We are in danger of sinking to the level of the GC's. Just an opinion. S
