I can understand the new by-pass coming out in Karaolanoglu so as not to clogg up Kyrenia, but from Alsancak onwards i.e. Lapta and Karsiyaka I personally think is madness. In 31 years I have never seen a traffic jam between these points (except for political rallies). All the roads off to the left and right - can you imagine the chaos that is going to ensue - cannot have roundabouts every few hundred metres. They drive like mad now on the strip from Alsancak to Karsiyaka. Most accidents involving death is because of speed - REMEMBER SPEED KILLS. I expect with electric poles being moved, water pipes being dug up by mistake and all the mimosa trees being cut down we are in for a quite a time. Just wondered what others thought of this. Prehaps I am becoming a 'grumpy old girl'.

I passed there today and I was quite surprised a the size of the 'extension'. As you say telegraph poles are bing moved and there is quite a large gap between the edge of the road works and the current location of the telegraph poles.

Agree, don't see the point, and I am sure that those involved with caring for the environment can't see the point either. So, who allowed this to go through, but even more importantly, who is going to stop it. If the people of Buyukkonuk could not have their flag ship eco village protected - well - anything goes!

Maybe it needs a lot of people to shout in the right places, but I doubt they will be heard, BUT I would like to know WHY this is being done.

The word 'madness' is probably the best description.

Absolutely crazy, there is little traffic along this route, and it goes nowhere, i.e Kayalar & Gecitkoy (narrow road to here)

Also, can only be a two way road through the Lapta strip

Is there some master plan ?

Why this road and not the Karpaz road

If there is any substance in rumours then "Gussleguts" is to be "Morphued" in any settlement with the South. Do not think that there is any doubt that the South would prize Girne as Kyrenia. Hope money is not changing hands to provide roads as a "sweetener" because tank and heavy military movement between the two would be the easier !! Please do not involve me in any heated debate as this is meant as a "joke" !

1) If you live in TRNC (semi) permanently: it's none of your business.

2) If you live in the UK or elsewhere in Europe: it's none of your business at all.

3) TRNC is 'their' country.

Can';t agree DC! Both Mr Talat and Mr Eroglu when addressing we 'yabanci' said we were welcome here and would be looked after. Therefore I guess it IS our business because it is our home. Howeve,r just as the TC's can't seem to change any 'masterplan' we certainly cannot, although I know many Government Ministers DO ask for our feedback.

There was a suggestion this week as far as the environment is concerned that it would be good for us all topoint out deficiencies to the government, cos this guy (been in Government for 25 years, but now retired) reckons the government listen to us more than others. (His words, not mine).

But 'masterplan' ? Who knows. I only know that if a load of tanbks go through Alsacancak it will create a huge hold up when they get to the Lapta strip! So, fear not!

Eroglu's plan 'B'. The roads will need to be wider for all those big american vehicles. And it's great that access to Gecitkale airport and the Karpaz is being made easier eh?...... there's a bigger picture to look at.

Could military aircraft land on this road using it as a runway? Are their any straight bits?

Just interested.

Message 1 - if speed killed as everybody seems to like to claim why are all formula 1 drivers not dead.

Bad driving kills !!

Half the drivers on the roads here in the UK are not fit to take cars onto the roads - and that goes for all sexes and all ages!!

The majority of drivers in Cyprus are accidents waiting to happen.

Improving roads should always be welcomed by motorists.

However, where the road has already been widened most drivers do not use the inside lane and hog the "fast" lane instead.

Gain - nil.

I imagine the intention is eventually to create a superhighway from Yesilirmak to the Karpaz. Maybe they are trying to emulate the road system in the South???????????? Does seem a little ostentatious at the moment I agree, and will create havoc indeed, as Rocking suggests.

Stunning, everybody wants a better country but starts screaming as soon as there are improvements.

You sound exactly like the people who complained in the UK about people speeding on the streets and then 2 years later complaining about the amount of speed bumps.

When you start paying for the privelage of living here then maybe you can start to complain.

I DO live here all the time and welcome any road improvements that speed up traffic. Speed on its own don't kill anone, speed + idiot does. We should not hlt improvements just because of a few idiots. Idiots can be dealt with by the traffic cops,

I know politicians and leaders of councils busy this weekend, but will try and find an answer to the question of why in the areas I spoke of in message 1. Message 18 - reading other comments this road widening is not an improvement - and thank goodness in some instances for speed bumps - and have paid for the privalige of living here in insurance, taxes etc., etc. and the lives of some of my husbands family.

You want to try traveling this road 6 days a week at peak times then you would know why they are doing the improvements in the winter when I use a car it was taking me an hour to get home but at least I'm back on the Pan now and with the new road it's down to 15 minutes ROLL ON ROAD IMPROVMENTS the drawback is there will probably be loads more speed cameras

Hopefully with the new widening of this stretch of road the pavement will extend through to Karsiyaka and beyond, making it a little safer to walk along!
