Well the votes are being counted and the results have started coming in looks like Eriglu is taking the lead in a few areas, still early so things could change.

Teresa, from Wikipedia: "In the presidential election, a candidate must obtain at least 50% of the votes in order to secure a first-ballot victory. Upon failing to do so, the two top candidates compete in a runoff election, with the winner assuming the presidency."

Liz no i am not happy, I am not saying Talat is the better man but he at least speaks english and is able to get on any world stage and speak for this country, Eroglu has no english, he has also made it very clear that he will not allow people to be moved again and that is why he got such a high vote from Famagusta and Guzelyurt

but only time will tell.

My respect for Mr. Talat crashed irreparable when I read that he cried on the day the TRNC was founded. The wrong kind of tears. Should TC's trust such a man in the talks about their future..?!

Hans there are so many ways of looking at this whole thing, i voted for Talat because he has already come so far with the talks now i fear we will go back to the start again because Eroglu has such a different view to Talat. Of course whoever would have won will have to do as Turkey tells them and at the end of the day the people will decide in any future referendum i just feel that the last 2 years talks have now been a waste of time.

Hans

The problem with Talat is that he promised his country a lot and it did not happen. From my understanding the TC's are worried that they are going to be sold 'down the river' by Talat and without knowing what has been agreed during the talks between Christofias and Talat and the worry that a referendum will be presented and voting required before anyone has time to digest the implications of what is presented I think has sealed Talat's fate.

its over! Eroğlu did it. no second round. no chance for Talat to reach. there was no problem with talat, the problem is with short minded and blind, uneducated, unable to get informed, TCs who are more than 50%.

Anyhow, başımız sağolsun..

On the other hand I have a theorie that this is all pre assembled; So, Eroğlu wins, then he gets the "cyprus file" on his desk, pressure from turkey will follow, he needs to agree or they will cut the finances, so he will agree to the same points as Talat would have done. Then, the referandum point comes, as UBP and Eroğlu have "achived" this solution for the cyprus problem, UBP followers will vote for YES like Talats followers (peace willings), which will be a huge majority. This will make the unificaton possible. If Talat continiues, the referandum vote for a YES would be a play with the fire.

Keep this in mind what I wrote!

no, its not to early, accounting to 100% - talat is unable to reach and eroğlu unable to loose his 50% majority unless there are big counting mistakes.

' the problem is with short minded and blind, uneducated, unable to get informed, TCs who are more than 50%'

I take exception to that statement and I have, over the last 3/4 months spoken to a lot of TC's about the up and coming elections and believe me they are not 'short minded, blind, uneducated and unable to get informed' and I have had the privilege of learning a lot about politics from my TC friends, what they suffer from is a lack of choice on whom they can vote for. They have been more than aware of the limitations of all candidates so they have had to make the best of a bad situation. If you read my previous postings you will hopefully understand why Talat has not succeeded in retaining his presidency.

RE Henrik: (...) the problem is with short minded and blind, uneducated, unable to get informed, TCs who are more than 50%. (...)

Henrik, I'm afraid that in youir disappointment you forgot this: "Although the voters are described as Turkish Cypriots, the Turkish mainland daily Sabah reported that in the 2009 elections only 38% of those entitled to vote were Turkish Cypriot, while the remaining 62% were Turkish citizens living in TRNC as settlers."

AJ, I try not to read your post as I dont think that they are of great value.

You live in Alsancak, alsancak and Lapta are Eroğlu land as most of these "TCs" are originally not from NC. But anyhow. I say that if anyone would have read the facts about Eroğlu and Talat, compared what they did and what they want to do, then compare what backround they have, what eductaion etc, how their familes live, what they did in the past... Then there is not other choice than voting for Talat. Eroğlu, UBP and his family are one of the biggest criminal blokes in TRNC. politicians hanging around with Mafia Fathers and scaring people in the Famagusta / Iskele area. all in the news, all availlable. Anyhow. I wont write more as I fear my own security. Let me say so much, it is obvious what happend. And I repeat, "the problem is with short minded and blind, uneducated, unable to get informed, TCs who are more than 50%"

well hans, I am not disappointed as the politics will be done as I said in message 45. I counted the settlers aswell, they are in the mainly "uneducated" section of my text.. the TC themselves are only a bit lazy to remember or to get the correct information. sorry to say that..

Dear DC,

If you were a Cypriot , perhaps you would have cried too seeing as your beloved country was disintegrating in front of your eyes. Very understandable feeling.

booitsme, just read what I wrote and you will see that I did not insult all TCs. I have made my statements and I stick to them.

ı dont think you have any backround infos and just try to get on the right side like some other folks here who are "new Tcs supporters" - but you know what, we have been waiting for an sollution for the past 30 years - and believe me, we can wait another 30 years.. Get some "own" backround infos and than I might talkt to you again.. I dont want to hear, I talked to them, I had a chat with him.. bla bla.. make up your own mind. Get your own "independent" info.

Couldn't agree more AJ - I can only think that Henrik must be the only person in the TRNC to have totally his own opinions and that they are the only ones that count! Such arrogance is insulting and astounding. How do you find out the history and opinions of those - as you said - who make us welcome in their own country and understand their feelings..................... oh yes, that will be by talking with them and discussing points of view ( not idle chit chat or gossip as Henrik thinks we all indulge in - except him of course), something Henrik doesn't seem to even consider. His way or no way!! All I know is that my TC friends are all happy with the result and give very clear and concise reasons why. Henrik If you don't want to know about other peoples opinions why don't you set up your own forum.................... of one?

AJ, do you realy think that this forum is the right place to learn something about this country??? A maximum you can get are a few "beside info" where to eat or what to do in karpaz, and maybe 3% of very valuable info - but nothing else.

Mostly I see you closing threads and reporting about people in Alsancak - which in my opinion has no great value to anyone..

Anyhow. I do read your posts, AJ.. you got me. But I fly over them as they are not of any big interest to me.

' as most of these "TCs" are originally not from NC.'

As you well know most in the Alsancak/Lapta area are from Paphos but I am also sure you are aware of the immigration of mainland Turks in 1571. So whom are you calling TC's and whom are you calling mainland Turks?

Henrik i think some of your comments are unfair, whatever our thoughts the people have spoken and tonight we have a new president, some are happy about that some are not, it is called democracy.

' AJ, do you realy think that this forum is the right place to learn something about this country???'

Do you really think that I rely on this forum to give me all the answers I require?

I use it as I do other sources of information to provide the stimulus for further investigation of my chosen subject.

Why do you treat not only TC's as being uneducated but also everyone else that does not agree with your line of thought.

yes, me too. concratiolation TRNC on your new president!

If I have hurt someone with my comments, I appologise for that! I should learn to discribe situations like politicans do; "hurting no one but telling nothing"

My appologises to all educated and intelligent Eroğlu voters. you did the best you could do

Seriously.

We are guests in this country and should act accordingly. Whoever the local population have voted for is entirely up to them and we must respect that. I find comments such as uneducated, short minded and the like highly offensive and insulting to our TC neighbours, the arrogance of some people beggars belief.

Re : Msg 79,

Dear Henrik,

Don't waste your time. The majority of British population are not interested in politics and are not bothered to vote even in their own elections ( usually only 30+ % do vote). What do they care about Cyprus?

As a TC I take great exception to message 45 - some of us do have a brain - hence we voted for Eroglu. As much as you may not like it - we voted for him and thank goodness over 50 per cent of us did.

remeber my message 45?

Erdoğan, the Turkish PM said following today morning: Whoever will be sitting at that table, he will be following the same steps as previously agreed on. And I dont think that Eroğlu will NOT follow them. POINT.

Wow!

RE msg 90, yorgozlu: (...) Lets see if Eroglu would deliver an agreed solution to Cyprus problems in 5 months ,like Talat said that he COULD!!! (...)

=> And..., if I remember well, didn't Mr Talat say that he wouldn't stand for President if there was no solution on the day of the elections..?!

Henrik has had the guts to come up with a lot of revealing information that most foreigners must surely have been totally unaware of.

Whether it's Eroglu or Talat - 'six of one, half a dozen of the other!' - by both of their track records, neither has addressed the problems facing foreigners' almost complete lack of protection when investing their life savings in TRNC property. Eroglu, at the Pia Bella 'do', promised foreigners their title deeds....but didn't care to elaborate, as he apparently had a 'pressing engagement' elsewhere. Very confidence inspiring...........

I can say that I am well informed in TRNC and Cyprus politics, with lots of background infos the most of you would dream of. If I would reveal all my infos / sources I could face some problems (not to mention what kind of). I would even go so far and also say that even if Ismet, Elko2 would reveal all his insider knowledge here, the same would apply for him aswell.

just a side note.

Elko, if you dont agree its fine, but you know how hard it is to be politically active with a heared voice in this actuall system, do you?

goood nite
