Hire Car / South to North Cyprus???

I know this may of been covered many times before, but for clarification, can anybody tell me please, if i can hire a car in the South and drive up through to the North in it. I would like to hire a car from larnaca, use it as my taxi rather than hire one, then use it in the North for my 2 week holiday.



Is this possible yet? or is there still the problem of getting insurance from the South to go North, and who covers you in the North etc, etc. Many thanks in advance.

Hi oddjob, Yes you can hire in the south and drive north. When you get to check point charlie, you can get insurance. You can get 3rd party or fully comp. 35 Euros & 70 Euros. When you have got your insurance you then go to the passport control and present your passport and your insurance. That way you can go back through as many times as you want. Unlike getting car hire in the north, you can not take that back to the south.

Batteryboy is quite correct but I believe that not all hire companies in the South allow you to take the car to the North. Worth checking this fact with prospective companies before confirming your booking.

Hi Oddjob....I use a hire company based in Nicosea, when i fly into larnaca....have been doing for last 5 years, never a problem...just a problem if you arrive between 12 midnight and about 8.30am as this is the time the Insurance booth at the crossing is closed ( although the border is open 24 hrs a day )...you cannot cross without this additional ins.

Hi

If you are flying into larnaca we always use economy cars. You can bring over to the North no problem and they are very reasonable. Ford 5 door €400 a month
