We have friends in Mauritius and I had thought that we would go from here as we would be "on the way" but the costs were very high when compared with the direct flight from Heathrow to Mauritius. We were told that we would probably fly Ercan/Turkey Turkey/Dubai Dubai/Mauritius and at the time it was about £1400 each. Have been to Maiuritius a couple of times and both times have found that a "package tour" generally works out better. However, next time will be going for three or more weeks so will probably do self catering. Hope you enjoy it when you get there. Best wishes.

Hi there, Actually thinking about it, it MAY have been via Larnaca. As it was so expensive we didn't pursue it. We did go and talk to the people at Ankara Travel. As we spend some time in UK we would go from there but it is a 12 hour flight if you go direct (which we usually do) - overnight usually.

thanks, the thought of a twelve hour flight makes me feel ill, thats why I wondered about going out of Larnaca. Will have to do some costing I think.

We went to Mauritius twice, once via Larnaca and Dubai - YUCK!

Last time we got a Turkish airlines flite to London Heathrow, overnighted at an airport hotel there, and then flew Air Mauritius direct non-stop to Mauritius. They have route sharing between Air Mauritius and British Airways. Try and get an Air Mauritius flite. Cost was same as via the LCA-DXB route (more or less)

Cheers,

Geoff

Hello there,

I went to Johanesburg twice in 2008 and from there flew to Mauritius.

Route I took once was Larnaca to Dubai and from there to Joburg (By Emirates)

Second time I took Larnaca to Cairo then to Joburg and a lot cheaper although prefer Emirates on a long haul as more things available ie personal tv etc!

On Mauritius stayed in Port Louis and hotel was lovely but not grand, lovely friendly and helpful people with 'strange french accents' like from a 70s sitcom.

I found the country to be reasonably priced for food , drink and local travel, and the beaches are stunning. My regret was only spending 4 days on the island.
