Why are people criticising Lilli?

I have never met her, but she comes across as a woman with a heart of gold, who will do anything for people or animals, with never a harsh word for anyone else.

Why not pick on Izzet for using a 'sticky' to promote Sat Navs?

Or Elko2, a moderator, for using a 'sticky' to promote his own products?

Or Zerochlor for promoting his chlorine free pools?

Would you prefer that Tom (flightholiday) had not posted anything during this travel crisis?

North Cyprus is a small community and the input from people such as these is useful, informative and often critical to residents, swallows and holidaymakers. They are also always prepared to answer questions individually and helpfully.

They may be business people, but they have the interests of everyone at heart.

Long may they continue posting!

Rob

elko2 did not make his post sticky, I did as a favour because he helped so many people on this forum.

Hear Hear Rob,

It seems some just jump on any topic to crticise or hijack it for their own reasons. I believed that one function of the forum was to tell people what is going on including events or special nights at restaurants. If a topic does not interest me then I would not bother opening it. As for the other businesses then why not? If they have a good product let us know about it.

I have not met Lilli either but like you say I have never seen a word of crticism from her about anyone, she seems an innovative business women and god knows we need more like her.

If their threads are as popular as the 'viewings' indicate, surely that is what people want to read on here.

What other type of threads would you like to see?

I don't think anyone is *picking* on Lilli, but some feel that the constant advertisement is a bit over the top. Every post I have read about this has only had praise for Lilli as a person and quite rightly so, she is a great asset to the community.

Also not met Lilli yet, but hope to very soon.

It is always quite obvious what the threads are about, so why criticise, just don't open them.

Seems to me the critics are the ones who are making fools of themselves here.

Is it not possible that Guidos has become "a victim of its own success"? It has proved to be a very popular restaurant and, of course, Lilli's work with the animals is well known. Guidos has also been 'responsible' (if you know what I mean) for bringing a lot of people who are members on here together. I, personally, have met some very nice people via Guidos.

I think (for what its worth) that Lillie and Guido have a genuine interest in the Ex pat community and provide an excellent service and restaurant for all ! they also need to survive (in a difficult time for all)for us all to enjoy what they have to offer ! If I dont want to hear what they have to say or post , I dont read it ,as any post on this forum ! we should all stop Knocking each other and enjoy what we have together and look for the more positive things we can offer ! regards Barry

Lilli is a gorgeous, dignified Lady. I for one love to read her posts when I get the chance to get on here. She has a big heart, is a generous host and a stabilising influence.

I really think in the big old scheme of things some people have nothing better to whinge about.

RE msg 8, sienna: (...) Is it picking !!?? I realise Lilli does a lot for the doggy world and thank god she does, perhaps more than most postings are too much for some You can over expose yourself so to speak less is more sometimes (don't start!!) (...)

=> Sienna, what would people in TRNC care about the opinion of people living in London?

P.S. Just ordered 8 oysters and a famous Guido steak for tomorrow evening. Some eat out in the UK, others do it in TRNC and then you get quality food at Guido's. It's that easy.

P.P.S. Have a nice meal tomorrow also, sienna, in London - hope you can eat it outside like we do in TRNC... At Guido's...

I met Liz a few weeks, and found her to be lovely warm and informative lady, who made us very welcome, yes we were spending a bit of money, but it was worth it, and we will certainly visit Guidos again in June when we are next out, as for a bit of advertising, I personaly see no wrong as all the threads state quite clearly on their headings what they are about, so if your not interested dont open them easy.

I have tried to keep out of this as some will accuse me of being in the 'clique' but Liz and Guido also store the medical equipment for TRNC Healthcare so without them we would have a big problem.

Lilli,cari ti loads cariad.

They host the Alsancak Chess and Backgammon on a Tuesday afternoon.I'm sure they would prefer a rest,

before their evening stint.I'm sure they do not make money on what we drink, but it is such an enjoyable afternoon for all those tha attend.

Guido,love you too

I don't think it's about Lilli specifically. It would appear that some people are saying that there are too many restaurant threads.

I feel that there is a danger that when restaurants keep posting (and I'm not picking out any particular restaurant) it can have a negative effect. People will wonder why they keep advertising their wares.

Most of us either live here or visit here regularly. For my part I've eaten at a lot of very good restaurants here, including Guido's. However I would not be persuaded to go to a particular restaurant just because someone said they had a good meal there or a bad meal there. What suits one does not suit another.

Well can i just say i am somewhat surprised at the interest, i have of course read the posts leading up to this. Again i am surprised,.These people who posted do not know me and maybe live in the UK or wherever and i cant guess how they judge. However every body has an opinion. I am happy to hear them. I have read through and without out a doubt its aimed at me as teatime and others say.I know its easy to judge when you are at a computer its not so easy when you work your butt off here. Judge me all you like, i will still do my best for the SOS, children in need, NAFI and of course the dumped dogs, whom i get them to a great live. So all of you who are so negative about me and wish to bring me down, i wont give up, believe me i have had more hardship than you know here but remain positive and will do so

i would like to say couple of things, first: we advertise the menu because customers ask us to do so and if you check lilli rarely advertise our restaurant but she answer to comments. second: regarding the "free" adverts on this board check our donation. it also public knowledge that in the last twelve months we homed 17 dog and 7 cats, we donated to local charities 1750 tl ,11 hampers full of goods to be raffled for charity and donated 9 meals for two @guido's, also to charity.(i will let you do the mats) my wife and i love to help people and animals we don't make any money by helping others. we are so lucky to have a person like lilli in this world, so way try to put her down?

To Lilli and Guido,

Don't waste your time answering to any negative comments about you or your posting.

You do not need to justify yourself to anyone, least of all any negative posters who have nothing better to do and write unnecessary comments especially if they know little or nothing about you. We know, and appreciate what you do for the expat community (and the local community) and we wish for you to continue.

Same old saying 'If they don't want to read about a topic ............... don't open the thread!!

Continue as you are Lilli and Guido

Ultimate Irony, 41 posts, 2 from Lilli, 1 from Guido.

Great advertisement and probably even more so than normal due to the amount of people trying to find out what this is all about.

A continuation thread from people complaining that there is too much restaurant information and has just created even more information about restaurants. In particular about Lilli and Guido.

All the best to you both and long may the success continue and multiply.

There are only so many customers to go round! One establishment doing well on the back of overt and covert advertising must affect the livelihood of others.

Good restaurants don't need to resort to free advertising on bulletin boards.

Their good reputation is spread by word of mouth.

Why is it that when someone has a different opinion certain people have to start with the personal attacks, everyone is entitled to an opinion, on one post because I hold a free thinking opinion it was suggested I may be on the change of life, about as relevant to the post as the size of that gentlemans penis.

Nobody as far as I am aware has attacked Lilli, nor picked on her ( very childish remark), in fact even the people who disagree with the excessive advertising have praised Lilli for her hard work, but the, great meal last night, thank you, can I book a table for Saturday, sorted, thank you, thank you etc. is over the top.

One of the main reasons I moved to North Cyprus was to get away from cantankerous, miserable and frankly boring Brits.

So those of you who keep moaning about Guidos and or Lilli,

I say keep moaning about it here, then hopefully I wont have the un-pleasurable experience of seeing you in Guidos Bistro.
