can anyone tell me if i can take doller traveler cheques to spain instead of sterling ones. i know this sounds daft but i have been to 2 banks today and they didn't know all i got was automated numbers that didn't put me on the right track. the reason i am asking is i have some left from america and am going to spain soon . in order to change them to sterling i will be charged again. i want to avoid this if i can. any help will be apreciated.

I would imagine you can change any currency at a reputable bank anywhere in the world.

As the pound is strong against the dollar perhaps changing them to sterling maybe the best option.

Why bother with t/cheques , open a Nationwide or a Post Office account , neither of which charge you for using an ATM machine when abroad, you are also less at risk in as much as you need only draw the cash you need for the day.

I'm absolutely certain you can cash dollar traveller cheques in Spain. This will save 2 lots of commission.

Lincsman,

It should not be a problem. I have done it previously.

If the can't, there will be a lot of very disappointed American tourists to Spain this year.

Yes you will be able to change them, may not be the best rate of excahnge compared to cash but certainly no problems.

Just as all currency transactions, check out all the exchange boots for best exchange rate and commission.
