Which is more reliable of the two this day and age, a 125 scooter or 125 motorbike. Fancy two wheels this summer and I know you will say they are both death traps but fed up of starting the car just to go to the shop down the road. Walk I hear you say, are you mad........!!!!!!!

in my opinion a scooter, had a honda 125 scooter in the uk

i am also thinking exactly the same as you bazil, trouble is do you know the laws concerning a licence, i know in the uk you can ride up to a 125 on a normal car license for up to 2 years (after passing your cbt)

Does any one know the laws regarding a 125 ?

Go for a scoot, 125 preferably 4 stroke, keep to the well known makes ie Honda Yam, Suzi, Gilera, Peugeot, Piaggio, these makes are all reliable with good scource of spares. If you have a UK bike licence you can transfer it on to your Turkish when you apply. If not you can ride up to 125 on your UK licence, if you have not got residency. Helmets are compulsary but no one gives a toss. Good second hand scoots are hard to come by, plenty of Chinise, but reliability and build quality issues exist.

Dixie, after 3 months you have to apply for turkish car driving license, are you still able to ride a 125 with this ?

And its not like the uk then where you have to pass a cbt ?

I bought a Yamaha 100 its the best thing I,ve done here. 40 lira tax 150 Lira insurance. Loads of miles to the gallon and because its 99 cc a crash helmet is not obligatory tho I do wear one. It cost 2050 gbp new and it has never let me down. I have been told that the chinese models are not too reliable, my little Yamaha is bullet proof!

Without doubt a motor bike!

Scooters and their little wheels are no where near as good.

I have ridden for years and my name should give away what I ride.

Forget scooters bikes are better!!!

Blackbirds great if the road conditions are good, here they are shite, grip, pot holes, gravel , you dont need something that does 180 mph to nip down the shops on and they certainly cant be used to their full caperbility in NC. I have a Blackbird in the UK and its the best sports Tourer Ive ever ridden, I use a KTM 640 Adventure here it suits the place great on road off road, a jack of all trades and master of sod all, but great enjoyment.

Scooters are better for going shopping. Ususally got lots of room under the seats for putting your carrier bags in. You can also balance a bag between your feet!! Not so easy on a motorbike unless you have a great big rucksack.

Dixie the roads here are crap as well - and that's why a bike is better than a scoot. Tiny wheels dropping down into pot holes, sliding about on the gravel - difficult to control at the best of times.

Also I wasn't recommending a Blackbird would be good over there...just making a comment - a KTM 640 is a great bike.

Bike or scooter? I would say its down to personal preferance but if you want something just to jump on and nip to the local shop I would (and use) a 100cc scooter. Don't forget in summer its so hot that it is damned uncomfortable to wear a helmet although a sensible option. Also if you go for a motorbike you need to wear more appropiate footwear rather than flip flops. Scooters with fatter tyres such as Yam's BWS are good for the roads here.

I own 4 scooters and 4 motorbikes all of which I enjoy riding (one at a time of course!) but shopping I always use a scooter. Stuff the shopping under the seat and in the footwell- job done!

I f you need further advice you can call me on 0533 8456019. Free advice

I agree with squarefour, keep away from Chinese stuff. Usually unreliable, poor build quality, and difficult to get parts for.

AND... a bike is best!!
