It is aimed at GCs coming over to north for fishing.They can still fish,but first must obtain licence.This has been decided after TCs has complained about "no more fish in the sea" for us.

no licence is required to fish in the sea . you are supposed to have a licence to fish the fresh water reservoirs but i dont know anyone whos bothered to get one . many ex-pats and others fish the reservoirs and there are many threads on here about them.

Perhaps I should have used the word "PERMIT".

However,you'd need some sort of paperwork that would allow you to fish in the sea from local government.



Not interested in fishing nor eating the damn things,just passing on the info from local papers.

wife listend to story on KTV it is sea fishing not reservoirs and apparently they have been trying to enforce this since 2000 coarse fishing licence / permit fishery department nicosia

cockneylondon, yes ive seen it posted before about getting one from nicosia but no one seems to have ever been asked to show it , even the guy who got moved off goyelli dam by the police wasnt asked to show it . he was asked to move as it had just had a new stock of carp introduced.

You do need relevant permits for a boat and the trailer... This makes no mention of fishing. I had to show the Harbour Master at Girne New Harbour photographs of my boat to judge its seaworthiness. Also I needed a letter from the Muhtar confirming that it would be OK for me to use Esentepe Harbour, such as it is.



The costs are relatively low I seem to remember about 27 TL for annual renewal.

This is a new law just been passed that anyone who is not a citizen has to apply for a permit for any kind of fishing, as said in msg 3 it is mainly aimed at the GCs who come over at weekends.

You need a licence to fish from a boat in the sea. and to spearfish in the sea, not sure about shore fishing, you need a valid visa stamp in your passport, photocopys of passport on both pages visa and photo. 2 passport photo,s. and ofcourse a muktar card, then you can go with all that to the hunting office in girne , that is next to the hospital catalkoy side,

This is for shore fishing and is 20tl for 3 days.
