My friend wants to drive his 34ft Winnebago, plus a car on a towed trailer, to TRNC later this year. Can anyone help with route, costs, time etc. He doesn't want to go through Albania or Macedonia. Wants to travel down through Turkey. Thanks for any help.

Watch out for TVA (VAT) going through France though I'm sure the laws have long since changed. Best people to contact are the RAC or AA.

My friend is German, Richard, so should be ok in France, as soon as he speaks, they'll stand back and wave him through.

Will TRNC Customs 'wave him through', or give him grief?

He'll be lucky to get through Bulgaria, or Romania, without being conned one way or the other!

Is there still a ferry Brindisi/Patras? Down through Italy across to Greece up into Bulgaria and then into Turkey. Or overland Slovenia/Croatia/ Bosnia & Herzegovina/Serbia and Montenegro/Bulgaria/Turkey.

Hope he keeps an online diary we can all follow.

Friends of ours have just taken a camper from UK through Turkey to TRNC.

I know they had problems in Croatia I think it was.

I'll make enquiries and let you know their exact route. I know they used a Sat-Nav.

Many thanks many M's, that looks so easy. Bernd is hoping to drive all the way through Turkey. Don't know what the roads are like but I wouldn't have thought they were Winnebago friendly all the way.

I myself have received much help from people on this forum (especially Beverley thanks girl). We plan to move with self converted motorhome three dogs, one cat, nervous partner towing a boat, grasping my Green Flag Euro recovery certificate and carrying a healthy dread of the TRNC customs very soon. If anybody this summer spots a iveco dailly and trailer at the side of a european road with the driver hanging from a nearby tree and three dogs gnawing at the lifeless carcass please stop and give the crazy lady sat in the doorway staring into space a lift and drop her off at Alaghadi. Anyone completing the trek in the next couple of months please post your outcome and any essential findings. Not there yet but heres hoping and praying.

Turkish roads are superb Tony, even I enjoy driving on them when 'im indoors lets me 'ave the keys. Motorway all the way. Might have a problem on the *hit bucket though!

Re MickSturbs': 'Might have a problem on the *hit bucket though!'

A good, true Kiwi story:

'Uncle Bloke' was a Blenheim cop. One holiday season he was posted to Kaiteriteri, a beautiful beach resort accessed by a mountainous, bendy road, to direct caravan traffic.

In NZ, it's illegal to travel in a caravan while it's being towed. He random stopped a caravan and asked the driver if anyone was in the caravan; 'No' said the man.

'Just excuse me a moment while I check, Sir,' said 'Uncle Bloke', who checks and comes back round to the driver and says: 'That's OK, Sir - sorry, but I have to check. In future, please remember to make sure the caravan door is properly closed - it was hanging open; that could be very dangerous, Sir!'

'Er, wait on a sec - my wife was taken short; she was back in the caravan, sitting on the 'night-bucket'. What, you say no-one's in the caravan? Oh, my God - I was hurling the rig a bit round those bends back there - cont'd...

Msg 13 Cont'd:

she must have bloody flown out - oh, Christ!'

'Leave the rig here, Sir, and we'll go in my car and try and find her - she could be injured, or anything.'

Driving back along the road, they came across the woman, striding up the steep hill, carrying the 'night-bucket', blathered in sh1t from head to foot, with a face like an angry dog's arsehole!

Msg 14 Cont'd:

'Yeah, yer bastard,' she bawled, 'when ya hurled round that f*%*ing bend, I shot out the door - I thought I was flying - yeah, right into the bottom of a gully covered in gorse - I just climbed back out of the bastard - I just wanna f*%*ing shower!'

Too right, Richard - and Uncle Blokey had to give up his weekend's shark fishing to de-sh1te the Holden cop-car - cos he didn't dare return it to the cop-car compound smelling like a septic tank 'sucker-outer'!
