I have read and heard many times of some of the alleged corruption amongst the powers that be in TRNC but they can,t hold a candle to the bunch at Westminster who have just voted NOT to accept reforms to their expenses. These hypocrites are telling Joe Public to tighten the belt and bed in for the Credit Crunch, they are happy to see house prices fall by thousands of pounds, they are happy to see young people unable to get a mortgage on their first home, it doesn,t affect them does it. They can keep their snouts in the trough, claim for rent on houses they already own, pay their family for work they haven,t done, furnish their second home at the taxpayers expense.

Is there really any wonder that so many people are leaving the UK in their droves when the country is being governed by a bunch of thieves, it is definitely a case of I,m Alright Jack.

I don't think you could compare the system in Westminster, bad as it is, with the TRNC system which is riddled with institutionalised and unaccountable corruption, nepotism and inefficiency. At least we with a free media can call our freeloading polititions to account and expose any scams. People get named and shamed and sometimes even resign. When did that last happen in the TRNC?

We pay an incredible amount of money to have our well being looked after by these people but as we all know value for money is simply not on their agenda.

What can you expect from these so called career politicians when they have to bribe their own to vote for 42 day detention? Whilst no one, in their right mind, would support a terrorist, every piece of our so called freedom is being eroded by this misguided and corrupt lot on the spurious excuse that "we" have to safeguard the UK from terrorist plots. No wonder they didnt want to divulge their innermost greed under the Freedom of Information Act - they have been hoisted by their own petard. Parliament then wonders why the young don't go out to vote- who would you put your X on Gary Robb or Lord Levy?

They say that examples are set from the top down - just look at the news -no wonder so many UK citizens are leaving the UK the corrupt and the inmates have taken over the asylum!

I think there is a vast difference between the system in TRNC and the one in the UK. Northern Cyprus has been isolated for the past thirty odd years and while I in no way condone the corruption to some extent I can understand it, they have not had the benefit of regulatory bodies nor had to be accountable to the electorate as in the UK, they have pretty much had to find their own way and fend for themselves.

Members of Parliament in the UK have been democratically elected to represent their constituents, or at least that is what we are led to believe.

I,m not too sure about the free press Pte Pike, I think we have politically biased press, or we have the gutter press, both may name, I doubt they shame, and as for resignations, they are few and far between although quite a few go off to " spend more time with their family".

As frustrating as it is at least the powers that be in TRNC look after their own, in the UK they just look after themselves, they are an absolute disgrace.

PtePike, about six months ago the minister for the environment resigned after allegations in he TRNC, so yes it does happens over here.

Regarding institutionalised and unaccountable corruption, nepotism and inefficiency, this happens in every country in the world, unfortunately or fortunately as the case may be it is blatantly obvious in Cyprus and not a hidden agenda as in the UK, US and other established EU countries.

Guy Fawkes - the only man to enter parliament with honest intentions.

To Hattikins and Aslan, yes, I agree that corruption and nepotism are part of the Oriental culture and that N Cyprus has a long way to advance, but how hard is it for them to set up a standards committee or a public ombudsman? God knows they haven't had much to do over the last 37 years or so apart from accept handouts from the Turkish taxpayer. I'm a firm believer that politicians everywhere should be fully accountable.
