Now had another call the blood is no longer needed as the man was a sailor and they found enough sailors at the port with the correct Blood Group.

p.s. Spider Anyone who has had a blood transfusion since 19?? can't remember of hand but they are not allowed to give blood because of the CJD risk.

The UK rules for NOT giving blood are as follows:

If you have given blood within 12 weeks

If you have a current cough, sore throat or cold sore

If you're on antibiotics or have finished a course in last 7 days

If you had hepatitis or jaundice in last 12 months

If you had tattoo in last 6 months

If you had accupuncture (unless on NHS) in last 4 months

If you had growth hormone or fertility treatment before 1985

If you had a transfusion before 1st January 1980 - ANYWHERE in the world

Hope this helps to clarify things a bit, I know I can never remember the time lapse between donations!
