I am partially deaf on the right side from the scream my misses gave out when she found this spider under the washing.

I have been checking out on the internet and it looks like a brown widow tarantula.

Can anybody tell me if these are native to cyprus?

I am just going to the pest control guys to see if they can confirm if or how deadly this potentially is as i have an 8 month old boy in the house.

Is there are any experts/enthusiasts around who could help identify or would like it for themselves please let me know.

Phone: 5338743918 or 00447866438382.

Any help or advise would be very much appreciated as the misses wants to move house

Thanks

Gordon

Gordon,

These spiders are native to here and as far as I know not deadly. Just have a wee poke about as they are often in two's I always seem to find mine on the ceiling!! But a friend finds them behind her chest of drawers. I would check where your wife keeps the washing basket first.

European bugger!! Have looked all day for his mate but to no avail, Had the pest guy round and he's fumigated the whole house as i found a couple of roaches behind the washing machine during the hunt. Have ripped a big ugly bush from the front of the house and found what looks like lots of his little off-spring so hopefully that's the source, I hope my missus doesn't read this about coming in pairs or i'll be up all night as sentry at the end of the bed. Haven't noticed any banana trees about, i'll need to investigate as the wee man loves a banana!!

I left the Spider in the caring hands of the pest control guy... I was wanting to keep him but orders dictated otherwise!

cheers for the info, ginger that looks like the very chap, similar size which we were told was a 'baby'

Amazing!

Tarantula bites are meant to be bit like wasp or bee stings... painful but not deadly unless to are allergic to the venom.

Just out of interest, what should you do if you get bitten by a tarantula?

There's a banana tree in next door's back garden, should I be worried???

Despite their often threatening appearance and reputation, none of the tarantulas is known to have a bite which is deadly to humans.

Poor 'Banana Spider' - give the guy a break!

Think of all the other 'nasties & bities' it predates on that bother you, like centipedes, scorpions and other biting spiders!

We found a scorpion outside in our garden. It was only a small one and on it's own but given that small ones grow it went down the ravine.
