No doubt nepotism will prevail and the attackers will be exonerated - 'All the foreigners' fault!' the cops will say. They've said as much already in the 'Famagusta Gazette' article, which Paul so vigilantly alerted us all to.

Whilst i do not condone what these thugs did you cannot just go and trespass on peoples land and start causing wilful damage. Surely what they should have done was identified these illegal trapping then called the police not took the law into there own hands by dismantling them. I also don't condone trapping birds with lime sticks and nets but there are EU rules that apply to these people but also should CADS be allowed to do this without the police being involved. I will also think this is more widespread in Malta & Italy where some of these people come from. Why did the German Embassy not want to get involved when the German CADS complained to them. Steve

Msg 8: 'Why did the German Embassy not want to get involved when the German CADS complained to them?' The same way governments don't support or condone 'Greenpeace's' activities. Cyprus is a very small place with close-knit communities - everyone knows everyone and exactly what's going on. These bird trappers would have been well known in their own area, even by the (corrupt?) police, who chose to ignore their activities until now - probably years and years.

Hmmmm I think what has happened in the South has drawn attention to the fact that the Authorities have been turning a blind eye to the activities of poachers now for a long time. CABS are a "confrontational" organisation and this was bound to happen. I am sure that they feel well within their rights as EU citizens drawing attention to an EU designated crime in an EU country. To a degree I admire them for their forthright action but I believe their methods will drive this lucrative business further underground. Already there are "Compounds" in the south, behind electrified fences where this illegal activity takes place. We shall have to wait and see how the EU, if at all, tackles this infringement of the law.

Loved this from the reporter when interviewing the locals "he was outraged that authorities had allowed ‘foreigners to enforce the law in Cyprus" Yeah!, wouldnt want to start something like enforcing the law ,who knows where that might end.
