I'd like to say well done to Girne Police and the Immigration Dept in Lef. on how easy its now become to renew your residency.

The immigration office now has a ticket system, with a waiting room...and everyone is seen in order of arrival. I got to the immigration office at 8-30am or so and had to wait till 10am for my turn. Once my turn came it took 10mins and I was out.

Normally when things go wrong I'm the first to complain, so on this occasion, well done guys!

p.s What do they do with all your paperwork for 2 weeks? Would be so much easier if you didnt have to wait the 2 weeks lol!

My guess is that the 'rule' makers have shares in the numerous photocopying outlets that frequent the TRNC. They must be making a fortune when you need at least two copies of everything submitted to 'government' offices.

Hi Goonerboy Have been to renew our residency today and like you, was very impressed with the way they do things now at the Immigration Office. Was there for 9am as we were told to get there nice and early, as soon as we sat down our number was called and we were out by 9 30am. We also got residency for two years instead of one as we are both over 60 years of age, so will not have to go through it again next year!!!

This week completed our 5th application.

As above the system has improved immeasurably over the last 5 years and no longer the hassle it was.

People we met last Tuesday, only one was over 60 but both got 2 years so anyone coming up in near future, check it out. You just need 2 years of money at current cost.

Keep it up and let us keep passing on the praise when deserved.

We went today for our first temporary stamp. Couldn't get 2 years as it is our first but they told us next year that we could. Cost for one year today was 185 TL. Also needed 7TL in stamps. We were there less than half an hour. No problem at all.

Please could anyone tell me when renewing your residency which I will be doing in the next few weeks do you go to the Police Station first with your paper-work and then go to the Muhtar for his letter, I`m doing this for the 3rd year and when I popped into the Muhtar the other day he said Police Station first, and although only a year has past I cannot remember which way round, I think I`ve had too much sun!! Thanks

Muhktar letter first, you need all the paperwork before going to police station.

4 years here and never had a problem with renewal. Except for the first application when I was Naive and accepted the services and paid (£80) to a british man here to go through the paperwork for me. In the end I ended up doing it myself... (he was uselesss and did not even speak Turkish) it is so simple. I still see him with uunfortunate victims down at Girne Police station. Can't remember the name of his 'company' But beware of anyone offering to do your residency for you for a fee... it is simple to do and certainly does not warrant £80.

Personally, if anyone needs help, I will give you all the help I can... fOC.

I agree, it is very easy, and each year they seem to be making it a little easier, and being more helpful. I got 2 years this time, so am hoping that in 2 years time they might even have an office in Girne where we can renew.

What is important to remember is that it is the immigration department at the police station that process and accept/approve your application and the office at Lefkosa only process the approved application. The only thing that the Lefkosa office can do to upset your pre-approved application is to lose your file.
