Is it possible to join plastic pipe to a mains water galvanised pipe or can you get compression joints for galvanised pipes as there is no thread on the end of the pipes. Also will a compression joint be possible for a bend. Or do you know a pumber or DIY man that would do a very small job at a reasonable cost as I think it may cost me double in price if I do it and probably put all of lapta off. Just trying to join the mains to a spare tank and then from the tank back into the main pipe again for extra water. Thanks in advance. Steve

Ahead of, or behind the water meter???!!! You haven't said which galv pipes are unthreaded.........? Short answer is, NO - there isn't a compression fitting (that I know of) North or South that will join galv to PVC. You could use 3/4" *garden hose (if that's the dia. of the mains pipe) and you'll get your 'compression joint' by simply use a hose clip - 'Jubilee Clip' in New Zealand - dunno what they're called in UK... I've seen *hose at 'Green Garden' shop - just after the army base heading out from Girne to Karaolanoglu. Hope this helps!

If the galvenised pipe has a couplin ( through joint) a tee piece can be fitted and a 3/4 to plastic adaptor can be fitted. These can be obtained from Marchals in Karakum Good luck

The mains pipe is after the meter on the outside wall. It has been cut before and someone has joined the pipe that you heat up onto it. I have taken this off now and the 2 ends of the metal pipe are showing but have no thread on the ends, so if I could get a compression joint on each one I could then join some more metal or plastic pipe to it. Sorry if it all sounds a mess because it is too me.

Then just use a short piece of (garden hose type) pipe with TWO hose clips/clamps - one end to the unthreaded galv. pipe from the meter and from the other end, a short piece of galv. pipe (threaded one end) and join this to to the *black polythene irrigation pipe with internal (female) thread and this fits the screw type fitting into which the * black polythene irrigation pipe which can extend to any length you want. That's the cheapest solution! Simple as!

He means there's no thread on the end of the galv. pipe(s) - the heat joining machine you're referring to only does plastic to plastic, not plastic to galv. The method I've recommended is, admittedly, 'Heath Robinson' DIY - but the guy stipulates 'Cheap'. We can all have the best job in the world if we work for nothing - no tradesman, in business in TRNC, that I know of works for nothing. Ideally, what he needs is to screw-thread the mains galv. pipe then join with 'Lordos' (irrigation type) fittings (available from Homebase (South). I've tried the local stuff and you'll be lucky to get a coupla years out of it before it crumbles (if exposed to the weather and not buried). I know of a very reasonable and honest plumber and he's becoming very popular amongst the expat community - the second you lay eyes on him you can see 'Honest' written all over his face. You need to contact 'Ronnies Furniture' to get hold of him, though. You won't need any 'comebacks' with this fellow!
