Hi All, I have just watched an interesting programme on television, which I think could work really well among the expats in the TRNC. It is called free economy. I am very good at baking, sewing, cooking. I could babysit or grannysit, even shop for someone. In return you would do something for me, eg. give me vegatables or do some gardening or clean my car. No money changes hands, you would instead get some kind of tokens. As costs are rising daily, I think this is a very good idea to save money and as most retirees have time on their hands and have a host of skills, it could work if enough people were interested. How many people on this board would be interested? The Butlers wife

Mrs Butler Yes it is a very good idea I have read about this. We all must have skills that can be used, the list would be endless. Good at cooking, baking, kitty/dog/child/granny sitting (no good at sewing though) plus others. Cannot participate as yet should it get off the ground as am not in the TRNC. LL

Tell you what Mrs B. You bake, sew, cook, baby sit maybe later, shop for me and I will marry you. Where have you been all my life? What I will do is wait home for you each day and lovingly welcome you home. Seriously though it is a good idea. Retirees with time? You must be joking. I wonder where I found the time to work. Good luck if it catches on. Skogsy

| Hi Skogsy, You are funny, I noticed from your profile that like me you are already married so I don't think I can accept your kind offer unless I want to end up in jail for bigamy. My garden isn't large and is easy to manage, so I am afraid you would only get a small cake. Nuna 1, I wish I could say yes to your question but unfortunately I don't think they would accept a loaf of bread for a ton of water. So yes we would still need money but there are lots of other things you could exchange for, house painting, car servicing, cleaning windows, ironing are only a few that all cost money. | i believe echange of knowledge is very good but according to regulation of each country because it is a way to do black work - we had that talk in france - suppose i want to exchange my knowledge of french with someone who is going to do cleaning in my home - it is illegal because i do not have the right to give french courses without been self employed and the lady coming to do my cleaning if she has an accident has no insurance !!! so gov said it is black work and illegal - unless you have a association and declare the activities !!! |

Hi Sylvie, I take your point but this programme was taking place in the UK and it was working there successfully, so there must be a way round it for people who participate in it. People would have to join and a directory of skills set up and put on the internet, People could then log in and find the service they require and then contact the people who specialise in that service. I don't think it is rocket science. The Butlers wife

your way of making business in england is more open than in france, when people want to do something so many obstacles are coming along - syndicates, working regulation, security and instead of helphing it stop you straight away !!!
