Hi

Take a look at this URL http://www.kapnosairportshuttle.com/index_files/Page352.htm

It seems that the bus from Larnaca to Nicosia costs only 7 Euro! so it will be the cheapest option! My friend will take them on this Sunday!

Good luck

Hi,

I have used the bus service from Larnaca to Solomis Square in Nicosia. It is just a short walk to Ledra Palace where you can park.

Very good service.

Does this bus from Solomos Sq. actually go to Larnaca Airport?

Have you any idea of departure/arrival times, or, indeed, the frequency of this bus service, please?

Hi Tanakoutou,

Yes is the answer to your first question.

Message 3 from Cygirl should answer to second part. My recollection is an hourly departure starting at 0430 until late at night.

There is more than one service, so it is just a case of using the one that comes first. Just to note one of them uses the motorway direct while the other services the villages along the old road. Either way the time taken does not differ much.

As I understand the airport shuttle bus from nicosia to larnaca airport leaves from the car park of the Philoxenia hotel, which I think is also known as the Hilton hotel. This is an extremely long walk from Ledra palace, especially with luggage.

"extremely long walk" ???? From the bus stop to Ledra Palace?

About 500 metres.

If people want to weight themselves down with tons of junk - well they cannot be helped.

The original poster Kevnmax did mention it was their son and as their profile is 54 years, it is reasonable to suggest the son is relatively young and fit (the B). I am 49 and decrepit, broken down, and knackered but I still do not think the walk from the Hilton to Ledra Palace is 'extremely long'.

For a start, the Philoxenia Hotel is NOT the Hilton. It's a good deal further on than the Hilton. The walk, in summer temperatures and with one cabin bag and one (even wheeled) suitcase, from Ledra Palace to the Hilton is all uphill. If from the Philoxenia to Ledra Palace, it's uphill to the Hilton, then all the way downhill to the Ledra Palace border.

Diogenes/Dublinderm - I presume the ones you mention are completely different bus companies/services?

I guess even if they have to pay for the taxi from the bus station to the Ledra Palace still it will be the cheapest option!

It'd probably cost more by taxi from the 'bus station' to Ledra than from 'bus station' to Larnaca!

Remember to remind these barstewards to TURN ON their meters!

Hi again Ten & Cygirl,

A taxi from Solomis Square to Ledra Palace would have to follow the one way system. so the fare would probably be double to original bus fare from Larnaca.

The original question was about Ledra STREET, but as you would have great difficulty getting a car anywhere near the crossing, I suggested the Palace as an alternative crossing point.

Once again Tenakoutou you are correct there are two completely different bus companies on the route. They are usually described as the BLUE or GREEN routes. If my poor memory is not faded too much, the Green is the more scenic and less direct, however the time taken for the journey differs little between the two.

I still do not think the walk is that far from the bus to the crossing.

There are two main bus operators from Larnaca Airport to South Nicosia (Lefkosia) the best and easy route from my route will be to use the Intercity Bues as they will take you more into the heart of Nicosia where as the Kapnos one is also very good as the operate 24 hours but will only take you to Outer Nicosia .

So intercity buses take you more into the heart of nicosia but the only drawback is that they are not 24 hours.

Another option which you could consider is taking a taxi to Larnaca to Travel Express

http://www.travelexpress.com.cy/

And getting into a shared taxi which would cost around 8 Euros and they would take you right to either the Ledra Gate or my preffered route the Ledra Street gate crossing.

Thanks Londoncypriot,

For a while there I thought I was dreaming of the Green bus service. This is the one I have used in the past and found it very good indeed.

If anyone can get a ride to Lokmaci/Ledra St. - it's a huge saving!

Thanx, guys, for a lot of valuable cost saving info on the normal (rip-off) taxi route!

Dublinderm: I didn't say it was a long walk to the bus stop, but to the philoxenia hotel. I was under the impression that this hotel was formerly a hilton hotel, however I may be wrong.

Tenakoutou: I was mentioning the airport shuttle bus.

Intercity buses do depart from Larnaca Airport

ALL BUSES SRART 20' EARLIER FROM LARNACA AIRPORT

http://www.intercitybusescy.com/article.php?id=19

From Larnaca Airport to Nicosia the cost is €5.00, to Ayia Napa and Protaras the cost is €7.00 one way and to Limassol is €7.00 one way.

I just talked to my friend who lives in the Nicosia and he mentioned that its impossible to walk from Philoxenia Hotel to the border!!! and the cost of taxi from there to either Ledra St. or Ledra Palace is around 8-10 Euro.

In this case if somebody arrives early to Larnaca shared taxi will be the best option! Otherwise combination of kapnos shuttle and taxi!

Hi cygirl,

There was some confusion earlier over the Philoxenia and Hilton hotels with some believing they were the same place.

The Hilton is in the old city (within the walls) near to Pahos Gate and Ledra Palace, whereas the Philoxenia is on Aglanjia Avenue on the south eastern fringe of the new city.

The Green bus drops you at Solomis Square just opposite the Hilton Hotel and within a short walk of both Ledra crossing points.

I hope this clears things up.

Thank-you dublinderm, I regret mentioning the Hilton in the same sentence as Philoxenia, but it was an honest mistake.

The point I was trying to make is that it is a near impossible walk.

To be honest, the whole situation has been caused by the south, who want to make it as difficult. and as complicated as possible to shuttle bus to and from the green-line.

As far as I know, they were enforced by the EU to implement a service from the airport to Nicosia, but so far they have tried to make this as awkward as possible.

There is a true lack of info regarding this matter, and this isn't helped when asking information centres in the south. I f you ask the bus stop near Ledra street if there is a service to Larnaca airport, they will tell you there is no such thing! All in all, this thread has started to clear up some question marks regarding this situation.

Diogenes and all,

I wish to make this short statement;

Doh! Doh! Doh!

Of course the Hilton is NOT in the Old City it is the HOLIDAY INN that is beside the Paphos Gate. The Hilton is on the main Limassol/Larnaca highway on the south fringe of Nicosia.

The Green bus pulls up just across the aprk from the HOLIDAY INN at Solomis Square.

My humblest apologies for inadvertently misleading people.

I hope I have not sent anyone on a wild goose chase.
