If they are putting the extra item on your bill the shop owner will be expecting the money in the till... So they can't pocket the money without the owner knowing...

They could take the 'item' home but that would probably be spotted by the shop owner... So I'm not sure what is going on from what you describe. What item was added to your bill?

its usually the same old thing no change in the till so rounding it up which if they do that with everyone it will soon add up, i take the chance of that happening away i always pay with a debit/credit card and pay it off at the end of the month

Hello Greycoul we were "short changed" by 10 lira a couple of weeks ago by the Starling opposite the Pork Shop ! fortunately Mrs Snakes spotted it and was given the difference ! it seems a clever scam they see you are not Turkish and rush your stuff through the till very quickly even if there is no one else waiting, ask you the money and short change you hoping you dont realise as i probably wouldnt ! sometimes I didnt even look but do now ! the thing is when mrs snakes went back in to challenge the till girl she didnt dispute it just gave her 10 lira !!!!!!!! puts you off dont it ?, if anyone knows the management please let them know they've "bin rumbled"

This has happened to me too often so always check as they put things through the till and also check my change and don't leave any shop until I am certain it is correct. I hate to say this but with holiday makers arriving (who don't understand or check their change), easy game. I have been short changed as many as 5 times in a week. I don't think this is an accident. I don't let them get away with it.

This happened to us too at Starling behind Patara City....we got charged double for a frying pan!!! Went back immediately and questioned it, got my money back. There was another couple behind us, questioning why they had been charged for 2 extra breads on there bill!!!!

Has happened to us a few times, charged twice for an item in a shopping list. Dont see though how the cashier could be making anything out of it, if deliberate, unless related to owner ,As has been mentioned ,the owner will want whats in the till to tally with reciepts.

It may seem a bit anal, but we always make a point of checking both the bill and the change. The odd kurus goes AWOL but we draw the line at 'wholesale' robbery... pardon the pun.

For the type of overcharging depicted here, my advice would be to seek out the manager and complain vociferously...

Simple ..... double check everything.

I watch my groceries going through the till so I see it being clocked up, I double check my till receipt when I get it along with my change.

I also do as a previous poster said .... i don't go back to Starling as I was caught out with double pricing standards when they first opened their shop near the Lefkosa roundabout, unfortunately for them, they did not realise that i can count and have a basic understanding of simple Turkish, which is just enough in these situations to realise what is going on!

COA came up with a scenario whereby the till girl could pocket the cash...

Customer A goes through, items are sub-totalled and the bill is paid..

Customer B goes through, gets customer A's sub-totalled goods added to their bill. They pay whole bill including re-paying for customer A's goods. Girl pockets the extra dosh....

If questioned she can say, "oops sorry it was just a mistake...."

This did happen to us recently though not in Starling... but it appeared to be a genuine mistake and we spotted it too.

Bottom line is still, check your bills and change given. That way you won't get diddled.

Personally I'm flattered anyone thinks I'm wealthy enough not to notice!
