I have just been out gardening and there are litterally thousands of ladybirds everywhere. I had to give up cutting the grass because it is crawling with them and I don't want to kill them. Is it just here or is it the same elsewhere, I've never seen this before.

Ballyboffin. Hundreds of Ladybirds in and around our garden here in our Cheshire village, I had to leave off pruning some bushes.

Message 2,

Sorry if I have offended you by my post about the ladybirds, no it doesn't involve NORTH CYPRUS at all. Though like yourself I have a house in NORTH CYPRUS.

I posted the message because I have never seen anything like this before and was wondering if other people who have a house in NORTH CYPRUS and read this BB, but are in the UK at the moment have lots of ladybirds in their garden as well. I have never seen so many ladybirds in NORTH CYPRUS.

Maybe by this silly post, not at all about NORTH CYPRUS, we can compare notes about a strange event, in the UK.

dub,

If the ash cloud allows, I will be in NORTH CYPRUS on 19th May. I can bring some ladybirds in a matchbox for mitsy........... They might cheer him up a wee bit.

Ballyb,

Just to let you know, I have a mignificent view of the wonderful Mourne Mountains in the County Down from the front window of my favourite pub at the top of the hill of Howth, just outside Dublin. Give us a wave!! The view is becoming a little hazy now - I can't think why.

Mitsyb doesn't sound like the type who can be cheered up.

I hope your travel plans go OK!

There are lots here too, at Esentepe. Every thistle has them, I counted 21 on one. They are hoovering up black aphids, doing a great job.

I was in England - Hull - in 1976, GB's hottest ever summer. At that time they were building the magnificent Humber Bridge (the bridge to nowhere!) and all the riggers and workers had to down tools and go home, I think for several days, because of just the same phenomena as Ballyboffin speaks of. These Ladybirds would give you a good nip, too!

And here's one for 'Newlad' (Paul): we were walking down 'Whitefriargate' (a main shopping area in Hull) and the road and pavements were red with Ladybirds - so much so, one couldn't avoid crunching them underfoot, no matter how careful one tried to be.

An interesting posting, Ballyboffin!

Even if someone posted that it was raining frogs in Egypt, I'm sure there would be complaints that it was irrelevant to TRNC!

dub,

I also have a view of the Mournes from the other side, Strangford. So if I wave you wouldn't be able to see me!!

Tenak,

Yes, I have found today that these little ladybirds do bite. Wee gits whose life I spared have bitten me 5 times. Hope we get the same summer of 76 again, that would be lovely.
