I really fancy some Kleftico today. Any suggestions where I can go without booking. Preferably West of Kyrenia.

Thanks.

Jo,

You could try the Lapida Hotel or if you are feeling brave Aphrodite Fish Restaurant!

Actually Chris I have had really good Kleftico at Aphrodite. I am feeling quite brave so do you know if they would definitely have it today?

To get the best 'kleftico' you would normally have to book at least 24hrs before you want to eat. The reason being the meat is slow cooked for at least 6 hours and some places I know of cook for up to 10 hours depending on the size of the meat, i.e. whole lambs leg.

Just been to the Lodge in Catalkoy, probably one of the best Kup kebabs I have had for many a year and only 16tl with the trimmings, excellent value and great product.

Also Teo's in Lapta on the beledir road. Terrific Kleftico and he'll do a goat kleftiko aswell if asked nicely (His brother has a goat herd). All cooked outside in the clay ovens. You'll need to order a couple of days in advance though but my goodness - it's worth the wait.

For Kleftiko I think goat/mutton is better than lamb.

Now that's a great way to promote a restaurant! I can envisage hoards of cars scouting around Lapta accosting locals asking, "Where's Teo's"!

Yes but only you could envisage that. Must be your vivid imagination.

Well we went to Aphrodite last night and it was really good. We popped in in the afternoon to see when Cemal was doing kleftico and he was just putting it in the oven which was good timing. Lovely meal and good, fun entertainment as usual. We paid 45TL per head for meze, kleftico, Mrs Cemal's lovely pancakes, a couple of bottles of wine and coffee and brandy on the house.
