Great drop kick, I've only seen a couple longer than that. What a great skill to control I don't have the time to give you the best moments of glory and the most dynamic players who have ever graced a rugby field but the vast majority would have to be from Wales Phil Bennett is without doubt the most magical player ever http://www.scrum.com/wales/rugby/player/7435.html Ian

There you go Rich another true moment of Welsh magic I saw a drop kick even further by Andy Hill playing for LLanelli away to Pontypridd many years ago. Unfortunately the cameras were not there to capture it. It was an awarded penalty but was too windy to place in the ground so he drop kicked it from around 60 metres Ian

Ian Bet you anything that the All Blacks will fail yet again to gain the World Cup next year, even on home soil. I will be there! Richard

Here is one for the Scarlets. The first eer game of higher level rugby I watched was when on holiday in Wales in I think November 1972. Llanelli against the All Blacks at a packed Stradey Park. Last kick of match and Phil Bennet was kicking a penalty I think to draw the match and he hit the post and Roy Bergier scored of the rebound- fantastic and what an atmosphere and I was only 12 so could not fully enjoy the celebrations. Ian McGeechan dropped a gaol for Scotland against France from well inside his own half on his debut! Also I think a South African called Francois Steyn holds the competitive record for distance doing it in last couple of years for South Africa not sure if it was against New Zealand, can anyone recall??? Yes I love my Rugby and miss the 6 Nations in TRNC with my Kilt and hipflask ready to drown my Scottish Sorrows haha!! But I feel we will not be challenging for the wooden spoon next season!

ang1706/Msg 9: 'Llanelli against the All Blacks at a packed Stradey Park.' The All Blacks had just won the third test at Ellis Park in Jo'berg - I was there! Then we got the news that Llanelli had beaten the All Blacks - that surely was Llanelli's 'finest hour' - good on 'em! It was during that UK tour that one All Black got sent home in disgrace due to some 'dust-up' in a nightclub - I can't remember just who, or the details!

Tenakoutou, Thats the days when the All Blacks did a full tour of the whole country,..................... But the final game against the Barbarians remains still one of the most talked about games in history. The days when the Babaas were totally home union countries with an uncapped player................. can anyone name him I wonder?

Richard, I agree they don't seem able to rise to the big occassion these days Angus, I also was 12 and would love to get my hands on a copy of the match. What a day that was, Oct 1972 John, it was Keith Murdock the prop who got sent home after the Wales match because of a nightclub incident. He never played again and became a recluse in Australia Angus it was our own Derek Quinnell who played his part in the greatest try ever winessed. Started by Phil Bennett

Yes I remember that the Edwards try was only touched by Welsh Players! Was Tommy David not from Llanelli?

Tommy David was a Llanelli player who played in that game. He was brought in from Pontypridd by Carwyn James the coach especially for our anniverary 100 year season culminating in the All Blacks match. There were a few players brought in for that reason and we won everything that year.
