So David Milliband is conducting a tour of the UK to find out why Labour lost the election!

Thats typical of Labour, instead of learning from all the 'advisers' he is going to find out for himself haha it will be a mighty long tour. Reminesent of Labour Councillors and MPs going on overseas junkets when all info is at home (or on the NET!)

Also notice how many senior Labour figures ARE ruling themselves out of a Leadership challenge- methinks the left will not take another onesided appoinment too esy!!

They are all lefties. Milliband is in the North East (South Shields-great place) which is labour heartland (they will vote for anything with a labour tag on it there - I know I belong there). What has labour ever done for the North East - We still haven't got a full length, decent A1 motorway, or even a dual carriageway. Tony Blair lived in Trimdon (mining village till he sold his house recently), Mandleson is in Hartlepool (they hung the monkey there - should have hung labour) and still the North East has the highest umeployment in the country and always has had.

He should not tour the UK but go back to the heartland and see what they think there. My brother in Law now 83 has voted labour all his life, as did his parents before him. He was a shipyard worker and now has asbestosis as a result of that. He voted BNP because he is sick of what Labour has done. His wife (76) vote UKIP because she is sick of the foreigners dictating to this country, maybe he should visit them.

Hildy, you are spot on they have the safest seats in the country in the North East which they take for granted.

Thats why they always put their new up and coming up for the seats.

13 years in power and the A1 was upgaded to motor way to guess where, Sedgefield and no futher.

Blair did not even travel by road.

Sorry, thought the thread was about the Glen Miller band, a safer bet I would think than any of the politicians in the UK.

Sir Antony Wedgewood Ben - which is his birthright title and he had to give it up to p****** in the same pot as Tony Blair - which he did.

I never ever saw Tony Ben (to give him his 'labour' title - appeals to the masses more) in the North East. If he was there it was only for the Durham Miners Gala for a bloody good p***** up. He was never there on any other occasion.

Safe seats up there so they put useless politians there because they know they will definately be voted in.

BNP! it wont just be foreigners or people who are not right wing like trade unionists and Labour activists, that will be persecuted. History has proven that after those people are got rid of ,new "enemies" of the state will be manufactured.

Pastor Niemoller

"THEY CAME FIRST for the Communists,

and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist.

THEN THEY CAME for the Jews,

and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew.

THEN THEY CAME for the trade unionists,

and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist.

THEN THEY CAME for me

and by that time no one was left to speak up."

The "me" might by then include right wingers or SNP or anyone who offends.

Message 13 - totally agree.

I once asked my Mam what a communist was and she replied

'it is a government structure which believes in Equality and everyone being equal'

What is wrong with that I asked

'Nothing it is just that when they get in power it turns out that SOME are MORE EQUAL than others' she replied.

'What are Socialists' I asked - ' Basically the same as communists' she replied

I once asked my Mother in Law why she voted Labour 'because Rob does' was her reply.

Overhead in a working mens club (in Trimdon - Tony Blair's consituency) I could not vote anything but Labour, My Mam and Dad would turn in their graves??? mmmmmm,...........

I suppose nobody south of Watford Gap ever voted Labour then, credit people with a bit of intelligence please, the vast majority of voters are more than capable of making up their own minds.

I really dont care what criticism I get for my opinions on this, it is fact, the North stopped the Tories from getting a majority...now they are complaining..I repeat they got what they voted for but some are too stupid to realise that!

The people of the North are very down to earth, loyal, hardworking decent and INTELIGENT people. They also believe what they are told by people they have trusted for years. looking at the Map on message 17 shows that some are obviously changing their views due the the let down of the past 13 years. Coming from North Durham as you can see that I lived in the centre of the Labour Heartland. The people actually believe what Tony Blair and his co-horts tell them, you may call believing them stupid but the people of the North are not stupid.

You just can't trust those damned northeners to vote for who we want. They will be demanding democracy next.

Don't be concerned about the future. The awful New Labour party has been defeated and Ant & Dec are at the helm. We can look forward to those happy days that we enjoyed in the late 80s under Thatcher & co.

Massive unemployment , record bankruptcies and 16% mortgages......Oh those halcyon days !

great way of getting us out of trouble the labour way, sell the gold, over employ, over pay,and go bankrupt.

yes that will work and you children and grand children will be stuck with the debt, Tories are only trying to pay of the deficit, not the debt that will take decades.

so in your book all labour voters in the north only voted that way because they are stupid and only voted the way their parents voted. What about Tory voters in the south are they stupid as well and do they only vote the way their parents voted.

We could go on for ever- Does where you are born make you stupid?

Does having a particular view on politics that differs from yours make one stupid?

I take it you are one of the non stupid voters, so how did you rate a Libdem voter, half stupid? but now they are in the ConDem alliance ,promoted to non stupid?

Wow, did you get your history wrong or are you just a kid?????

When I left school there was no unemployment (with a Tory Governement) I could choose which job I wanted and the type of job I wanted and I chose Office Work and got a job as an Office Junior. I helped an elderly colleague called Sally to make and serve the Tea and Coffee and the Janitor's wife to clear up after stationery deliveries etc. Then Harold Wilson came into Power. He brought in SET Selective Employment Tax, which meant every employer had to pay tax on all the people they employed. So Sally got finished and I had to make the tea, the Janitor's wife got finished and and I had to do her job.

All the people who got finished went on the dole and that was the start of the unemployment queue we have today - 1 million people put on the dole in a matter of weeks as a direct result of Labour (Harold Wilson's) Policies.

From then on we heard UNemployment figures every week. Harold Wilson had to repeal the Selective Employment Tax law, but by that time the damage had been done - employers were not going to bring them back to work when they had other workers who could do the jobs. So Sally and the Janitors wife never got their jobs back and neither did a million other people. I don't remember a strike until Labour got into power.

Once he had done this, Harold Wilson then decided that the million people needed to have benefit to be able to live on the dole (where he put them) and so he introduced the Benefit system to help them to stay at home cos there was no jobs.

I really do not understand your comment unless you are so tunnel visioned and narrow minded, only concerned about what affects you in your luxury villa with pool and top of the range of whatever car you drive. There are some people who are interested in international politics and events that would like to pass comment however, if your head is so stuck in the sand you're in the right position to get ......... as you have told others to do!

I can remember no strikes until until Harold Wilson (Labour) got in. Then we had Jamas Callaghan (Labour) -

Remember his WINTER OF DISCONTENT!!!! caused by all the local authorities/public service workers going on strike. The Unions brought him down - Maggie Thatcher had to sort the Unions out or we would have had a few more Winters of Discontent to deal with, also the governement being held to ransom by the Unions. I have always been a Union Member, but was disgusted ad the power used to bring down an elected government.

'I can remember no strikes until until Harold Wilson (Labour) go in.'

Strikes go back to the year dot. One of the first recorded was in Egypt in 1152 BC. UK had general strikes in 1842 and 1926 ( PM was Stanley Baldwin (Conservative)) long before Harold Wilson came along.
